The Cycle: Giving the Coyotes Their Due

The cycle spans the internet for intelligent, well-thought out articles which either help your fantasy team or will give you some better incite on your favorite team. If you feel we should add your link, feel free to contact us at contact at dailyfaceoff dot com or on twitter @DailyFaceoff.

This year seems to be the year for New York Rangers 2004 first-round picks, or any first round goalie in that year for that matter. Not only has Al Montoya re-emerged as a legitimate prospect/NHL capable goaltender but Lauri Korpikoski now finds himself on the top line in Phoenix. The Phoenix Coyotes official site recently discussed how important Korpikoski and rookie David Schlemko have been to the team as they currently sit in 5th place in the Western Conference.

Around the NHL

Earlier in the week, the Carolina Hurricanes sported an ice cold powerplay. Cory Stillman discussed this thought with Chip Alexander of the News Observer as the team tried to snap out of their funk. For the record, the Canes’ PP went 0-2 in their last game, a 3-2 overtime win against the New York Islanders.

As previously mentioned, columnist Kent Wilson is one of the inspirations for this piece. Check out his latest at Houses of the Hockey and Hockey Prospectus.

Our affiliate site NHL Hot Stove recently released their four-part series “What’s Wrong With Hockey?”. Here is the outline of the project, as well as parts I, II and III.

The great Roy MacGregor of The Globe and Mail takes a look at the changes made during the GM meetings and what it means for the future of hockey. As always, his columns are a must-read.

Speaking of concussions, versatile forward Pierre-Marc Bouchard is starting to feel like his old self. The 26-year-old played in only one game last season before sustaining his concussion followed by missing pre-season and the first two months of this year. Considering he is on pace for 34 points on the year, which pro-rates to around 51 points, we would say he is back on track in becoming a fantasy relevant player.

Tweet of the Week

This week’s ‘Tweet of the Week’ comes courtesy of San Jose Sharks forward Devin Setoguchi, who donated $5,000 to charity following receiving 15K followers on Twitter:

Wanna thank eveyone who supported the cause I’ve lost someone close and I’m sure others have to thank u again I will donate 5k to #cancer

Congrats, Devin. You are doing a fantastic thing for everyone involved.
