The Cycle: Is Reimer Giguere 2.0?
It should come as no surprise that there is hype surrounding Toronto Maple Leafs rookie James Reimer. Just how much hype? Well recently former All-Star and Conn Smythe winner Jean-Sebastien Giguere told reporter Jonas Siegel that he sees some of himself in the towering rookie. Siegel breaks down their similarities in Eat, Sleep, Leafs.

James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail kicks off this week’s edition of ‘The Cycle’ with his annual man-games lost column. Surprising to see the Canucks so high on that list considering their run at the President’s Trophy. However, when you consider how much depth the team has and how many different combinations they used on the blue line it all makes sense. The article also makes a very good argument for Dan Blysma and the Jack Adams Trophy.
Speaking of Blysma, his re-uniting of Chris Kunitz, Jordan Staal and Tyler Kennedy has worked out very well. Imagine what this tandem could do with Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby still healthy.
On a bit lighter of a note, we move on to the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Did you know that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is an absolute beast in the offensive zone? David Staples explains why on Cult of Hockey. I guess Nugent-Hopkins takes his vote for Oilers’ top pick.
An All-Star roundtable of dusters debate the headshot issue over at Sports Illustrated’s Red Light. Speaking of headshots, Patrick Kaleta understands he needs to change his play. My favorite part of the article reads like this:
“I don’t really agree with throwing your elbow out there. When you are on that line, I’ve thrown say 500 hits and 5 of them have been maybe over the line which is going to happen because people are human and make mistakes.”
Clearly Kaleta makes mistakes.If Cooke gets cracked down on, Kaleta clearly deserves his due.
In an attempt to not upset Sabres fans, here is a fluff piece on Nathan Gerbe. Keep him in the back of your mind for next season.
Tweet of the Week
Theo Fleury said on Team 1040 he does not believe Roberto Luongo and the Canucks will do well in the playoffs, citing the record of President’s Trophy winners over the past few years. These comments sent Canucks fans in an uproar, sounding off on Fleury on a beyond personal level. The NHL veteran retorted by exposing these ignorant fans and showing that he is a changed man, full of class and composure.
