The Daily Faceoff Show: The airing of Festivus grievances

With only a few days until Christmas, it’s never a bad idea to draw from Seinfeld and air some grievances.

Of course, there’s plenty to go around. COVID-19 is still around, the NHL has been forced into a brief hiatus and how could we forget to mention the fact that NHL players won’t be heading to Beijing.

And on Thursday’s episode of The Daily Faceoff Show, Frank Seravalli and Mike McKenna aired a few of their own.

McKenna: “I’ve got a problem with the NHL not disclosing injuries. It drives me crazy that a player can miss a game and they say ‘oh, he’s out with an injury, it’s undisclosed.’ I understand why those teams want to protect the player, when they come back… but man, I don’t think it does much justice to players, especially if they’ve been concussed.

“Fans start to question the players. They go ‘oh, this player is soft…’ they start to make up their own narrative of why a player is out of the lineup if they are hurt. That’s where I think transparency is really necessary.”

Seravalli: “My first part is just how the NHL, the hockey world and really society at large has dealt with COVID.

A disclaimer here, I’m not a COVID denier by any stretch, I understand it’s real, the ramifications, the impacts. I’m fully vaccinated, the whole nine yards. But we’re about to enter 2022 and that we’re starting the show with a COVID update and the league being paused for the second time, it feels like we’re handling it still like December 2020.
