The DFO Prospect Show – Ep. 1: Sebastien Cossa

Sebastian Cossa is one of the elite goaltenders in this year’s draft. He’s the No. 1 ranked goaltender in North America, second in the draft behind Jesper Wallstedt, and has a great chance of being picked in the first round.

Cossa is a native of Fort McMurray in Northern Alberta. He was a second-round pick of the Edmonton Oil Kings in 2017 after a fantastic season with the Fort Saskatchewan U15 AAA team. Since then, the 6’6′ goaltender has been dominant in Edmonton. In two seasons, he’s played in 52 games and posted a 1.98 GAA along with a 0.928 SV%. His record is outstanding, with only seven regulation losses coming in that time and eight shutouts.

In his first year in Edmonton, Cossa entered the season as the team’s third-string behind Dylan Myskiw and Todd Scott. However, by the time the season ended, he played in a 1A, 1B tandem with WHL veteran Beck Warm. Now, Cossa is the leader between the pipes for Edmonton with Colby Knight and Colby Hay behind him. In the interview, we discussed the change in roles for over the two seasons.

Off the ice, the Edmonton netminder is a hockey gives blood ambassador. He gave us a brief insight into what that means and how he became a part of that organization.
