The Kraken will reportedly not select Carey Price in the Expansion Draft

Carey Price will remain a member of the Montreal Canadiens.
According to Frank Seravalli, the Seattle Kraken have opted not to select Price in the Expansion Draft. Instead, it appears that defenceman Cale Fleury will be their choice.

The #Habs keep their goaltending duo in-tact, but are likely to lose defenseman Cale Fleury.

Seattle’s ownership group reportedly gave the team the green light to select Price despite his large contract if the hockey operations department deemed it was fit to do so. The logic for Seattle was that Price, who grew up in British Columbia and played junior hockey in Tri-City, would be a for the team’s marketing, just like Marc-Andrey Fleury was for the Vegas Golden Knights back in 2017.
There’s certainly no denying how great Price can be when he’s at his best, but, given his age, history with injuries, and massive contract, there would have been a significant amount of risk for Seattle to select him. Price will be 34 years old at the start of the 2021-22 season and has a $10,500,000 cap hit for five more seasons.
