The Return of DailyFaceoff Fantasy Team of the Week

The DailyFaceoff Fantasy Hockey Team of the week is back. Every Monday I will be writing an article outlining the LW, C, RW, two D-Men and goaltender that performed the best at their position this past week. This team will be based off of the usual fantasy scoring categories and players that excelled across the board. Skaters – (G, A, +/-, SOG, GWG, SHG, PPP) Goalies – (W, GAA, SV%, SO)

LW – Patrick Marleau (San Jose Sharks)

Marleau and the Sharks continued their torrid start to the NHL season. They had three games this week, going 2-0-1 and scoring 15 goals. Marleau buried three of the 15, while assisting on three more. Two of his goals came on the power-play and one was the game winner. The 34-year-old sits at 11 points in eight games, which has him tied for fourth in the NHL.

STAT LINE: (3 G, 3 A, 6 P, +1, 2 PPG, 5 PPP, 1 GWG in three games)

RW – Joe Pavelski (San Jose Sharks)

The Sharks are playing so well right now because all of their lines are clicking. Pavelski who is currently playing centre on their third line, is eligible at both C and RW on Yahoo. This week he managed to score three goals and three assists, including a two goal, two assists game vs. the Flames on Saturday. The only downside about his week was his minus-1 rating, but all three of his goals came on the power-play.

STAT LINE: (3 G, 3 A, 6 P, -1, 3 PPG, 4 PPP in three games)

C – Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins)

I will not be surprised if Crosby is featured in this article every Monday. He is in a league of his own right now. This week he had two goals and six assists which helped Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kunitz to five and six points respectively. Crosby has 17 points in eight games, which is five more than the second placed Pavelski (12). It is a small sample size, but he is currently on pace for 174 points if he maintains this and plays 82 games.

STAT LINE: (2 G, 6 A, 8 P, +3, 2 PP in three games)

D – Erik Karlsson (Ottawa Senators)

The number-1 defenseman off the board this year struggled in the first two weeks of the Fantasy season. However he reminded us all why he was selected in the first two round this week. Karlsson had a goal and three assists in three games for the Senators. Ottawa is 3-3-2 to start the year, so Karlsson heating up is a welcomed sight for Sens fans.

STAT LINE: (1 G, 3 A, +1, 1 PPP in three games)

D – Shea Weber (Nashville Predators)

The 6-foot-4, 235 pound Weber and his new D-partner Seth Jones have enjoyed a strong start to the season. This past week he potted one power-play goal and an even strength goal while Jones had a huge game-winner in Montreal. Weber is averaging 25-plus minutes a night against the opposition’s top-line so his plus-3 rating last week was impressive.

STAT LINE: (2 G, 1 A, +3, 1 PPG in four games)

G – Jonas Gustavsson (Detroit Red Wings)

With Jimmy Howard out with a hand injury last week, the Wings had to turn to their backup Gustavsson. He has struggled throughout his NHL career with injuries and inconsistent play, but this week he was spectacular. For those of you who added him off of Free Agency you enjoyed a 3-0 record with a 1.67 GAA and .953 SV%. Now that Howard is healthy, the goalie known as ‘The Monster’ becomes a spot-start-only candidate again.

STAT LINE: (3-0-0, 1.67 GAA, .953 SV%)
