Toronto Marlies sign Dryden McKay to two-year AHL contract

The Toronto Marlies announced Monday afternoon that they signed goaltender Dryden McKay to a two-year AHL contract.

McKay signs with the Toronto Maple Leafs minor league affiliate after a Hobey Baker award winning season with Minnesota State. He had a 38-5-0 record this season, with a 1.31 goals against average and .931 save percentage in 43 games. He’s the third goaltender in the history of the Hobey Baker to win the award, and is also the first player from Minnesota State to win it. He also set NCAA Division 1 men’s hockey record for single season wins this season with 38, and career shutouts with 34.

On top of the 34 career shutouts, McKay had a 113-20-4 record with a 1.46 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage over the course of 140 games and four seasons with Minnesota State.

McKay won’t be eligible to report to the Marlies’ facilities until August 25, as well as play for the Marlies until October 11 due to a six month ineligibility period he accepted on April 14. He is ineligible due to an anti-doping violation he made due to testing positive for ostarine while being tested as an alternate for the USA Olympic team in Beijing.

McKay will not be able to play for the Maple Leafs while signed to an AHL contract, but it will allow him to develop in their system, while being eligible to sign with any NHL team should they be interested.
