USA Hockey named Bill Guerin Olympics general manager

Bill Guerin has been named general manager of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Team, Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reports.

Alongside Guerin will be Chris Drury as Assistant General Manager.

Guerin, 51, is in his third season as the general manager of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, while Drury, 45, is in his first year as president of hockey operations and general manager for the New York Rangers.

“It’s certainly great to have Bill and Chris working together in building our Olympic team,” Executive Director of USA Hockey Pat Kelleher said in a statement. “They were exceptional players in their day, both played in the Olympics, and today they’re accomplished leaders of NHL clubs. Our team is in good hands.”

Team USA’s GM role had been left vacant since Stan Bowman’s resignation on Oct. 26.

This isn’t Guerin’s first experience with the U.S. Olympic hockey team. As a player, he suited up for Team USA at the Olympics in 1998, 2002 and 2006, winning a silver medal.
