Simon Gagne News

Gagne will have an extended leave of absence due to personal reasons.

"We received a sad news in the last few days my dad met with specialist in Boston and he has an incurable cancer. We hope a miracle will happen right now they're more important things than hockey and I want to be with my family in Québec city,” Gagne said in a statement. There is no word on how long he will be away from the team, but our thoughts and prayers are with the Gagne family.

Gagne has seen some time on the Bruins first line in his first two games, but tonight he will start there and is expected to stay there for the time being. He has played well in his first two games in a Bruins uniform and scored on Thursday vs. the Habs.

The Bruins have signed Simon Gagne to a one-year, $600K deal.

Gagne was in training camp with the Bruins on a professional tryout and continued to travel and practice with the team as the season started, but he has finally inked the contract and will try to work his way into the lineup.

Simon Gagne will be at Bruins training camp on a tryout.

Gagne, 34, has not played since the lockout shortened season in 2012-13. He did not receive a contract offer last year and spent most of the season as a TV analyst. With Philadelphia in 2012-13 he had five goals and six assists (11 points) in 27 games. The Bruins are pressed up against the salary cap so if Gagne has anything left in the tank, he would be a good option to help the B's round out their roster.

Gagne gets to go back to the team he played 10 seasons for (1999-00 to 2009-10). He recorded 524 of his 586 career points as a member of the Flyers. He has been a healthy scratch on multiple occasions this year in Los Angeles, Philadelphia could provide him with more ice-time.

Asked if it was plausible that Simon Gagne (concussion) plays again this season, Dean Lombardi responded, ``Doubt it.'' Not a big surprise.

Those of you holding onto Gagne in hope of a late-season return can drop him with confidence. He finishes the year with seven goals and 17 points in 34 games.

Before practice, Simon Gagne skated again for about a half-hour. After practice, I talked to Gagne and he discussed his progress, saying that he is still working toward getting in shape, a natural given that he was off the ice for six weeks.

Things didn’t go very well for the Kings in New York yesterday, but things went better for one of the Kings in Los Angeles. There is, unfortunately, no real update on Simon Gagne, who has been out since Dec. 26 because of a concussion. Gagne is regularly being evaluated by doctors but is not doing any type of hockey-related activity and is not with the team.

There remains no timetable for the oft-injured Gagne. Before getting hurt he scored seven goals and 17 points through 34 games. If you need an IR slot it is probably safe to drop him.

Gagne, who suffered a concussion in the Dec. 26 game against Phoenix, will miss a fifth consecutive game tonight and has not been on the ice. Darryl Sutter had no update on Gagne, who had been scheduled to see a doctor on Monday. “I haven’t spoken with him for two or three days,’’ Sutter said today.

Doesn't sound like Gagne will get back on the ice any time soon.
