NHL Hockey Player News

Martin Jones will start Tuesday at the New York Rangers.

Jones finds himself with the team because Joseph Wall will be out of the lineup for several weeks with an ankle sprain and, on the back end of a back-to-back, will make his first start of the season for the Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Jones played well in relief last week, saving nine of 10 shots (.900 SV%) and shutting the door to secure a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators. The 33-year-old netminder has plenty of NHL experience but has played exclusively in the AHL thus far, posting a 3.37 GAA and .870 SV% in five games (2-1-1). Jones and the Maple Leafs will have their work cut out for them as +151 road underdogs against the New York Rangers.

Pierre-Olivier Joseph (lower body) is available Tuesday vs. Arizona and expected to draw into the lineup.

Joseph has not played since November 4th, recovering from a lower-body injury, and has only played five total games this season. During a conditioning stint with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Joseph scored one point (0G / 1A) in two games. He will draw into the Penguins lineup Tuesday for Ryan Shea.

Pierre-Olivier Joseph
Luke Schenn will draw back into the Predators' lineup Tuesday vs. Philadelphia.

Luke Schenn will re-enter the Predators lineup on Tuesday in favour of Tyson Barrie, who will be a healthy scratch for the fourth time in the last seven games. Schenn has zero points in nine games this season but continues to play his hard-nosed brand of hockey, tallying 30 hits and 11 blocks while averaging 14:29 time-on-ice.

Luke Schenn
Tyson Barrie is expected to be a healthy scratch Tuesday vs. Philadelphia.

Barrie will again be a healthy scratch on Tuesday for the fourth time in the last seven games. Trade rumours have circulated about Barrie, who is in the last year of a contract ($4.5 million AAV) and has been unable to establish himself since being traded to the Predators last season. Luke Schenn is expected to draw back into the lineup with Barrie in the press box.

Tyson Barrie
Charlie McAvoy (upper body) is out Wednesday vs. New Jersey and still considered day-to-day.

McAvoy played only 15:53 time-on-ice on Thursday before exiting the game with a shoulder injury. The 25-year-old defenseman did not play on Saturday and has been ruled out for Wednesday's matchup against the New Jersey Devils. His status remains to be determined for the team's next contest on Friday against the New York Islanders. Kevin Shattenkirk has assumed McAvoy's duties on the top powerplay in his absence.

Charlie McAvoy
Pavel Zacha (upper body) will not play Wednesday vs. New Jersey and is still considered day-to-day.

Zacha exited Saturday's contest against the Arizona Coyotes with an upper-body injury after playing only 6:42 time-on-ice and has been ruled out of action on Wednesday against the New Jersey Devils. His status remains to be determined for the team's next contest on Friday against the New York Islanders. Zacha has centred the top line and top powerplay unit all season, scoring 19 points (8G / 11A) in 26 games, averaging 18:22 time-on-ice. Morgan Geekie is expected to center the top line between Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak during Zacha's absence and assume duties on the top powerplay.

Pavel Zacha
Chris Tanev (undisclosed) is out Tuesday and considered day-to-day.

Tanev was unable to complete a full shift, exiting Monday's game against the Colorado Avalanche after only 0:15 with an undisclosed injury after taking a hit from Ross Colton. Tanev has been a steadying force on the blueline for the Flames this season, recording seven points (1G / 6A), 65 blocks, and 11 hits through 28 games.

Chris Tanev
Anthony Duclair (upper body) is questionable to return to the Sharks' lineup Tuesday vs. Winnipeg.

Duclair exited Sunday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights with an upper-body injury after playing only 5:50 time-on-ice, depleting a Sharks offence that was already without William Eklund, leading to Tomas Hertl playing a season-high 28:46. Duclair has five points (3G / 2A) in his last five games along with a +6 plus/minus and remains questionable to play on Tuesday.

Anthony Duclair
Tristan Jarry was the first goalie off the ice at the Penguins' morning skate.

Despite a losing 8-10-2 record, Jarry is arguably stringing together the best season of his career, showcasing a 2.48 GAA and .918 SV%, along with leading the league with three shutouts. The Penguins have hovered around .500 all season (11-12-3), partly due to their inability to provide Jarry with ample goal support, highlighted by their 30th-ranked powerplay (9.5%). That said, Jarry and the low-scoring Penguins are still -192 home favourites against an Arizona Coyotes team that played last night and is amid a three-game losing streak (0-3-0).

Tristan Jarry
Igor Shesterkin was the first goalie off the ice at New York's morning skate.

Shesterkin has a decent 2.83 GAA and .908 SV% through 16 games (10-6-0) but has quietly been outperformed by veteran backup Jonathan Quick. Shesterkin has allowed nine goals on his last 64 shots (.859 SV%) and he struggled to showcase the elite form he has possessed in previous seasons. That said, the Rangers have still been able to string together a terrific season and are -166 home favourites against a Toronto Maple Leafs team that lost 4-3 in overtime last night to the New York Islanders.

Igor Shesterkin
Joonas Korpisalo was in the starter's crease at Tuesday's morning skate.

After consecutive poor performances led him to serve as the backup for three straight games, Korpisalo rebounded on Saturday, saving 30 of 31 shots (.968 SV%) in a 5-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings and will look to build on that performance as the likely starter on Tuesday. Korpisalo has strung together stretches of solid play this season, but is still showcasing a less-than-ideal 3.22 GAA and .903 SV% through 14 games (6-6-0). The Senators have won three of their last four (3-1-0) but are +117 home underdogs against the Carolina Hurricanes, who have lost four straight, being outscored 15-7.

Joonas Korpisalo
Jordan Binnington was the first goalie off the ice at the Blues' morning skate.

Binnington allowed three goals on 24 shots (.875 SV%) in a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday and will likely return to the crease for the Blues on Tuesday. Binnington has now put together consecutive poor performances, allowing eight goals on his last 72 shots (.889 SV%) and seen his season GAA increase to 3.00 while still sporting a respectable .911 SV%. The Blues are -134 home favourites against a Detroit Red Wings team that lost 6-3 to the Dallas Stars last night and is without several key offensive players including Dylan Larkin (upper-body), J.T. Compher (soreness), and David Perron (suspension).

Jordan Binnington
K'Andre Miller (personal) will be out Tuesday vs. Toronto.

Miller has played all 26 games for the Rangers this season but will sit out on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs for personal reasons. Miller has 12 points (5G / 7A), 34 blocks, and 24 hits this season. Zac Jones is likely to join the Rangers' blueline in Miller's absence.

K'Andre Miller
Jesper Boqvist has been recalled from Providence (AHL).

Boqvist is no stranger to the NHL level, amassing 190 games and scoring 55 points (28G / 27A) in the process. However, he has spent most of the 2023-24 campaign with the Providence Bruins of the AHL, tallying 14 points (5G / 9A) in 24 games. His call-up is a potential sign that Pavel Zacha (upper-body) might not be ready to return to the Bruins' lineup.

Jesper Boqvist
Ryan McGregor has been reassigned to the Tucson Roadrunners (AHL).

McGregor was not able to crack the lineup during his time with the Coyotes and will be reassigned to the Tuscon Roadrunners of the AHL, where he has four points (2G / 2A) in 19 games. In a corresponding move, Zach Sandford was recalled by the Coyotes.
