Frederik Andersen is in the starter's crease for Monday's morning skate.

Andersen appears to be the starter for the Hurricanes on Monday as they face off against the Philadelphia Flyers. Despite his perfect 3-0-0 record to start the season, Andersen has been anything but perfect with a lowly 3.38 GAA and .875 SV%. Andersen has never finished a season with a goals-against average greater than 2.96 but has plenty of time to correct his totals, starting tonight as the Hurricanes are -180 road favourites.

Frederik Andersen
Tristan Jarry is the first goalie off the ice at the Penguins' morning skate.

Jarry will likely start for the Penguins on Monday as he attempts to find more consistency in his game. Through six starts this season, three are very high quality while the other three are borderline dreadful. In his three quality starts (2-1-0), Jarry has a .965 SV% along with two shutouts, contrasting severely with his other three starts (0-3-0), where he has registered a .821 SV%. Jarry and the Penguins will hope to get their games in order on Monday as they are -236 home favourites against an Anaheim Ducks team that has quietly won three straight games, outscoring their opposition 14-9.

Tristan Jarry
Jonas Johansson is the first goalie off the ice at Monday's morning skate.

Johansson is quietly and surprisingly putting together one of the premiere early-season performances among NHL goaltenders. Coming off back-to-back shutouts, Johansson has a 7-4-1 record and has done his part filling in for the injured Andrei Vasilevskiy, with an impressive 2.56 GAA and .925 SV%. The 28-year-old journeyman has only started eight or more games in a season twice in his career, a number he will match tonight if he gets the nod against the Seattle Kraken and their fifth-worst ranked offence (2.22 GF/GP).

Jonas Johansson
Ilya Sorokin will start Monday vs. Detroit.

Sorokin will return to the Islanders' crease after watching Semyon Varlamov record a 34-save shutout in a 2-0 victory for his New York Islanders on Saturday. It was the second time in seven games that Sorokin was given the night off early this season. Sorokin's early season 2.80 GAA and .915 SV% are slightly below his career average of 2.35 GAA and .923 SV%. Even as -149 home favourites on Monday, Sorokin and the Islanders will have their work cut out for them against the high-scoring Detroit Red Wings, who rank third in the league offensively (4.00 GF/GP).

Ilya Sorokin
Connor Hellebuyck will start Monday vs. the New York Rangers.

Hellebuyck served as the backup for the Jets on Saturday for the second time this season as he watched Laurent Brossoit allow three goals on 29 shots in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Hellebuyck started the season uncharacteristically with a .843 SV% in his first three games (1-2-0) but has looked more like himself in his three games since (3-0-0), recording a sparkling .948 SV%. The Jets are +109 home underdogs against a New York Rangers team that ranks 17th in the league offensively (3.13 GF/GP)

Connor Hellebuyck
Ryan Poehling will be a healthy scratch on Monday vs. Carolina.

Poehling will be a healthy scratch for the first time this season, allowing Morgan Frost to return to the Flyers' lineup after being a healthy scratch for six consecutive games. Poehling has a -1 plus/minus rating and zero points while averaging 11:32 time-on-ice through eight games this season.

Ryan Poehling
Morgan Frost will return to the Flyers' lineup vs. Carolina after being a healthy scratch for the last six games.

Frost has been a healthy scratch the last six games and will return to the Flyers' lineup on Monday, replacing Ryan Poehling. Frost broke out last season, recording 46 points (19G / 27A) in 81 games but hasn't had the favour of John Tortorella and the Flyers' coaching staff early this season. He is likely to slot on the second line with Travis Konecny and Tyson Foerster.

Morgan Frost
Carter Hart will start Monday vs. Carolina.

Hart served as the Flyers' backup goalie on Saturday as he watched Samuel Ersson struggle, allowing seven goals on 25 shots in a 7-4 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The Flyers will look to get back on track as Hart will return to the crease and look to continue his outstanding 2.18 GAA and .924 SV% start to the season (4-2-0). That said, the Flyers are +169 home underdogs against a Carolina Hurricanes team that has won two straight, outscoring their opposition 6-2 in those games.

Carter Hart
Ilya Sorokin is in the starter's crease at Monday's morning skate.

Sorokin is likely to return to the crease after watching Semyon Varlamov record a 34-save shutout in a 2-0 victory for his New York Islanders on Saturday.

Connor Ingram will start Monday vs. Chicago.

Ingram will return to the Coyotes crease for the fourth time this season after he was pulled just 12 minutes into his last start against the Rangers on Tuesday. Ingram surrendered three goals on just nine shots before being lifted in favour of Karel Vejmelka in what was by far Ingram's worst start of the young season. The 26-year-old netminder will be hoping to regain the form he flashed in his first two starts of the season, when he stopped 50 of the combined 54 shots he faced (.926 SV%). He draws a dream matchup tonight with the Coyotes being -190 favourites at home over the Blackhawks.

Connor Ingram
McDavid (upper-body) is on the ice for warmups and is expected to play against the Flames in the Heritage Classic on Sunday.

McDavid missed the last two games with an upper-body injury that he suffered last Saturday vs. the Jets. However, he was a full participant in Saturday's practice which put him on track to be a surprise participant in Sunday's Heritage Classic vs. the Flames. McDavid, who has eight points (2G / 6A) in five games, skated next to Leon Draisaitl and Warren Foegele in Saturday's session.

Connor McDavid
Skinner will start against the Flames in the Heritage Classic on Sunday.

The Oilers will give Stuart Skinner the nod in Sunday's Heritage Classic against the Flames. Both Skinner and fellow Oilers goaltender Jack Campbell have struggled to find their form early on in the 2023-24 season, but Skinner did enjoy his finest start of the season in Edmonton's most recent game against the Rangers on Thursday. The 24-year-old netminder stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced in a losing effort as the Oilers were uncharacteristically shut out on home ice. Outdoor games always bring some extra uncertainty with them, but the Oilers are -155 favourites to pick up the win on Sunday, and the line could move further in their favour if Connor McDavid is able to return to the lineup.

Stuart Skinner
Markstrom will start the Heritage Classic in Edmonton on Sunday.

The Flamers uncontested number-one goaltender unsurprisingly gets the nod for the Heritage Classic on Sunday night. Markstrom leads the league in losses with four thanks in large part to a lack of goal support. The 33-year-old Swede allowed just two goals on 34 shots in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Blues. He owns a respectable .906 SV% and a 2.67 GAA on the season. The job won't get any easier for Markstrom on Sunday as he'll take on a rejuvenated Oilers team in the outdoor classic with Connor McDavid likely to return.

Jacob Markstrom
Vlasic is in concussion protocol and will not play in Arizona on Monday.

Vlasic left the Blackhawks' game on Friday vs. Vegas after just 11 shifts and 9:53 TOI due to a concussion and will not play Monday against Arizona as he remains in protocol. The injury comes at a terrible time as the 22-year-old towering defensemen had been enjoying an incredibly strong start to the 2023-24 season with three assists, eight SOG, and a +4 plus/minus in eight games this year.
