McElhinney will start Friday vs. the Blue Jackets.

McElhinney allowed one goal on 23 shots in the Hurricanes win over the Flyers on Monday. With Petr Mrazek going last night, McElhinney will get a shot to face his former team on Friday. The veteran netminder is 5-2-1 with a 2.01 GAA and .931 SV% on home-ice and stopped 31 of 32 shots in a 3-1 win in his first game against the Blue Jackets.

Curtis McElhinney
The Golden Knights have assigned Brandon Pirri to Chicago (AHL).

Despite tearing it up during his call-up, scoring six goals with three assists (nine points), Pirri returns to the AHL with Max Pacioretty ready to return on Friday. This is simply asset management from the Golden Knights as Pirri does not have to pass through waivers to get to the AHL. Vegas could try and move a roster player to try and call Pirri back up in the near future.

Brandon Pirri
The Islanders have activated Jordan Eberle (undisclosed) from IR.

Eberle has missed the last four games with an undisclosed injury but appears ready to return to the lineup on Saturday. Eberle will likely re-claim his spot on the top-line from Josh Ho-Sang and returns to the lineup with 17 points (7G / 10A) in 35 games this season.

Jordan Eberle
Hart will start Saturday vs. the Flames.

Hart was pulled after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the Flyers loss in Carolina on Monday. With Michal Neuvirth out (again), the Flyers turn to Hart as their No.1 netminder just five games into his NHL career. The 20-year-old is 2-1-0 with a 2.36 GAA and .904 SV% in his first three starts on home-ice.

Carter Hart
Copley will start Friday in Dallas.

Copley allowed two goals on 33 shots in the Capitals win in Ottawa last Saturday. Copley is riding a five-game winning streak, having posted an impressive 1.97 GAA, .936 SV% and one shutout over that stretch. Tonight he faces a Stars team that has won four of their last six (4-1-1) but will be without Jamie Benn.

Pheonix Copley
Blackwood will start Friday in Arizona.

Blackwood allowed five goals on 40 shots in the Devils loss in Dallas on Wednesday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Blackwood, who will make his fifth straight start tonight in Arizona. The Coyotes are just 7-12-1 on home-ice, so you can take a look at starting Blackwood tonight.

Mackenzie Blackwood
Kuemper will start Friday vs. the Devils.

Kuemper allowed five goals on 37 shots in the Coyotes loss to the Golden Knights last Sunday. Kuemper finished December with just one win in seven games while posting a 3.18 GAA and .900 SV%. Despite a solid matchup vs. a banged up Devils team that is 4-13-3 on the road this season, Keumper remains a desperate option.

Darcy Kuemper
Pietila will make his season debut on Friday.

Pietila was recently called up after scoring 12 goals with 10 assists (22 points) in 34 games with Binghamton (AHL). Pietila, who will skate with Pavel Zacha and Stefan Noesen, has just three points (1G / 2A) in 19 career NHL games. He will replace John Quenneville in the lineup.

Blake Pietila
Grubauer will start Friday vs. the Rangers.

Grubauer was pulled after allowed four goals on 14 shots in Colorado’s loss to the Sharks on Wednesday. Grubauer has lost four straight games while allowing a combined 12 goals on 101 shots (.881 SV%). As bad as he and the Avalanche have been as of late, he has a nice matchup against a Rangers team that is 6-10-2 on the road.

Philipp Grubauer
Neuvirth is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Neuvirth has a long list of injuries throughout his career so this comes as little surprise to Flyers fans. Neuvirth has only appeared in six games since returning from his most recent injury. The Flyers claimed Mike McKenna off of waivers from the Canucks to join Carter Hart as the Flyers 1-2 punch in net for the time being.

Michal Neuvirth
Backes is eligible to return to the Bruins lineup on Saturday.

Backes has finished serving his three-game suspension and is set to return to the Bruins lineup vs. the Sabres. Backes brings very little offence to the table at this point in his career, having picked up just 10 points (3G / 7A) in 33 games this season.

David Backes
Rask will start Saturday vs. the Sabres.

Rask allowed two goals on 38 shots in the Bruins win in Chicago in the Winter Classic. Rask has won two straight while stopping 62 of 66 shots (.939 SV%). Tonight he will take on the Sabres for the third time this season—he has gone 1-1-0 with a 2.46 GAA and .907 SV% in the first two meetings.

Tuukka Rask
The Canucks have recalled Thatcher Demko from Utica (AHL).

The Canucks traded Anders Nilsson to the Senators for Mike McKenna and waived McKenna with the purpose of sending him to the AHL to replace Demko when they called him up. Despite losing McKenna on waivers to Philadelphia, Demko still comes up as the Canucks’ No.2 netminder. The 2014 second-round pick has gone 8-5-0 wit a 2.58 GAA and .911 SV% in 16 games with the Comets this season.
