Murray allowed three goals on 31 shots in the Penguins win in Florida last Friday. Murray is now riding a five-game winning streak while posting a 2.40 GAA, .924 SV% and one shutout. The 23-year-old has yet to lose in regulation this season and tonight he takes on Connor McDavid and Oilers, who have stumbled out of the gate.
Talbot allowed two goals on 24 shots in the Oilers’ loss in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. After opening the season with a shutout, Talbot has lost four of his last five starts while allowing a combined 15 goals on 128 shots (.883 SV%). Tonight he faces a high-end Penguins team on the road, where the 30-year-old is 1-2-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .903 SV% so far this season.
Pavelec allowed three goals on 19 shots in the Rangers loss to New Jersey in his first start as a Ranger. He has also made one relief appearance this season, allowing a combined six goals on 43 shots (.860 SV%) in his two appearances. Tonight he is worth considering as a spot-start as he faces a Coyotes team that has not recorded a win yet this season.
Hellebuyck made 24 saves on 27 shots in the Jets’ 4-3 win over the Wild last Friday. Hellebuyck has won all four of his starts while turning aside 119 of 127 shots (.937 SV%) that he has faced. Hellebuyck will look to continue his winning ways against a Penguins team that comes in at 6-3-1 while averaging 3.20 goals for per game.
Gibson stopped 49 of 51 shots in the Ducks 6-2 win over the Canadiens last Friday. It was an real busy night for Gibson, but he’ll start again tonight thanks to getting the weekend off. After a tough start to the season, Gibson has now won two of his last five with an impressive 2.12 GAA and .947 SV%. However, he draws a tough test tonight in Philadelphia.
Nilsson was pulled after allowing four goals on 17 shots in the Canucks’ loss in Boston last Thursday. It was a completely different outcome than his first start of the season (32-save shutout) but he will get another shot tonight in Minnesota. The Wild have been banged up this season, but still rank fourth in the NHL in scoring (3.67 GF/PG).
Howard allowed four goals on 37 shots in the Red Wings’ loss to Vancouver on Sunday. Detroit didn’t really show up in this one and left Howard out to dry for the most part. After start the season with three straight wins, Howard has now lost three in a row while allowing a combined 10 goals on 67 shots (.851 SV%). However, he has excellent career numbers vs. the Sabres.
Vasilevskiy stopped 28 of 29 shots in the Lightning’s win over the Penguins on Saturday. Vasievskiy has been excellent this season, winning seven of his first eight starts (including six straight) while posting a 2.38 GAA, .933 SV% and one shutout. He will face a Carolina team that has started the season at 3-2-1 with 2.67 goals for per game.
