Jerabek was acquired from the Canadiens and arrived with the Capitals with one goal and three assists (four points) in 25 games with Montreal. During his time in Laval (AHL), the 26-year-old had 11 points (1G / 10A) in 17 contests. There’s no word who Jerabek will replace or who he will skate with in his debut.
DeSmith has spent most of the year in the AHL, but during his seven games in the NHL he has posted a 2.24 GAA and .926 SV%. With Matt Murray out with a concussion, it looks like DeSmith will get the Devils tonight. The 26-year-old has gone 16-8-1 with a 2.73 GAA and .910 SV% in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season.
Grubauer stopped all 18 shots that he faced after replacing Braden Holtby in the Capitals loss in Columbus last night. Grubauer has been excellent in his last five appearances, stopping 120 of the last 126 shots (.952 SV%) that he has faced. He makes for an intriguing spot-start tonight vs. the Senators—he is 4-3-0 with a 1.89 GAA and .934 SV% on home ice this year.
Murray was hit in the head by a shot in Monday's practice and has been diagnosed with a concussion. As is always the drill with concussions, Murray does not have a timetable for his return. Pittsburgh will turn to the young duo of Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith once again.
After being acquired from the Senators on February 23rd, Brassard missed the first two games with the Penguins while resolving his visa issues. Brassard had 18 goals and 20 assists (38 points) in 58 games with Ottawa and should centre a lethal third line behind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin—he could also play alongside sniper Phil Kessel.
Vrbata was a healthy scratch for the last three games but with Denis Malgin (upper-body) out, Vrbata will replace him on the second line. Vrbata has picked up five goals and eight assists (13 points) in 38 games this season. Despite a rough year, he is a decent daily punt play while playing alongside Vincent Trocheck and Jonathan Huberdeau.
McCoshen has been in the lineup for the last three games, but he will swap spots with MacKenzie Weegar tonight vs. Toronto. These two have swapped spots frequently this season, but neither brings any offence to the table.
Weegar has been a healthy scratch for the lsat three games, but he will replace Ian McCoshen tonight vs. the Maple Leafs. Weegar has not done much offensively this season, scoring just one goal with four assists while averaging 14:12 TOI/GM in 37 contests.
Murray was forced to leave the ice early on Monday after being hit up high by a shot. Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith are both on the ice this morning, which suggests that Jarry will start and Murray will miss at least tonight's game vs. the Devils. Expect an update on Murray's status later today.
Luongo allowed five goals on 37 shots in the Panthers win over the Penguins on Saturday. Since returning to the Panthers’ crease, Luongo has won three of four starts while posting a 2.76 GAA and .919 SV%. Tonight he makes his this start of the year vs. the Maple Leafs—he is 1-1-0 with a 0.97 GAA and .973 SV% in the first two meetings.
Boyd, 24, has picked up 15 goals and 29 assists (44 points) in 56 games—good for second on the Bears. Boyd did not pick up a point in two games with the Capitals earlier this season, but the former sixth round pick could get into the Capitals lineup on Tuesday.
Schneider has been sidelined by a groin injury since January 23rd but is nearing a return to the Devils’ crease. The Devils’ No.1 will start tonight for Binghamton and should be back to start either Thursday in Florida or Friday in Carolina.
Quick allowed three goals on 24 shots in the Kings loss to the Oilers on Saturday. He has lost two in a row but is expected to remain in the crease tonight vs. the Golden Knights. The 32-year-old will be in tough with the Golden Knights in town—where Quick is 9-10-2 with a 2.33 GAA and .922 SV% this season.
Markstrom allowed one goal on 42 shots in the Canucks win in Arizona last night. It was a great outing for Markstrom, who has stopped 49 of the last 50 shots (.980 SV%) that he has faced. Markstrom stopped 27 of 30 shots in a 4-3 OT win in his first game vs. the Avalanche.
