NHL Hockey Player News

Schneider will be between the pipes on Friday.

Schneider stopped 32 of the 34 shots that he faced in the Devils loss in Brooklyn on Tuesday. Schneider has been great through his first nine starts, going 6-3-1 with a 2.16 GAA and .922 SV%. He won’t get a tonne of goal support this year, so he will need to be superb night in and night out if he’s going to win. He will be in tough tonight with the Blackhawks in town.

Cory Schneider
Paquette (ankle) will be a game-time decision on Thursday.

Paquette has missed the last five games with an ankle injury but he took part in the morning skate and it looks like he will return to the lineup on the Lightning’s third line. Monitor his status during the pre-game warmup.

Cedric Paquette
Rask was the first goalie off of the ice at the Bruins morning skate.

Rask allowed five goals on 19 shots in the Bruins loss to the Stars on Tuesday. It was a tough outing for Rask, but the Stars are one of the NHL’s top offensive groups. Rask has won three of his last four starts while posting a 2.80 GAA and .896 SV%. He has another horrible matchup tonight vs. Washington—the Capitals have averaged 3.27 goals per game through four games.

Tuukka Rask
Vasilevskiy will start Thursday against the Sabres.

Vasilevskiy gave up three goals on 35 shots in the Lightning’s win over the Hurricanes on Sunday. Vasilevskiy gave up a goal in the final second of the game, making the box score look worse than it should have. It was a great season debut for the Lightning’s No. 1A goaltender. Vasilevskiy is a must pick up and must-start tonight vs. the Sabres.

Andrei Vasilevskiy
Green (upper-body) could return to the Red Wings' lineup on Friday.

Green missed the last five games with an upper-body injury but practiced again on Thursday and there is a chance that he will play on Friday vs. the Maple Leafs. Monitor Green’s status during tomorrow’s morning skate. Green has two assists in seven games this season.

Mike Green
The Maple Leafs have placed Jonathan Bernier (lower-body) on injured reserve.

Bernier missed Monday’s game and his placement on IR is retroactive to last Saturday, meaning he is eligible to come off of IR on Saturday vs. the Capitals. Look for James Reimer to start on Friday vs. the Red Wings—Bernier is listed as day-to-day.

Jonathan Bernier
The Blackhawks have reassigned Ryan Hartman to Rockford (AHL).

Hartman had one assist in three games during his call-up, but has been reassigned to Rockford, which suggests that Marian Hossa, could return on Friday, but even if Hossa isn’t quite ready, Viktor Tikhonov has been waiting to get back into the lineup.

Ryan Hartman
Ullmark will be in goal on Thursday vs. the Lightning.

Ullmark stopped 29 of 30 shots in the Sabres win over the Islanders on Sunday. Ullmark appears to have wrestled the starting job away from Chad Johnson and tonight he will make his third consecutive start. Ullmark comes in having stopped 56 of 58 shots (.966 SV%) while winning two straight.

Linus Ullmark
Holtby will be in goal on Thursday vs. the Bruins.

Holtby allowed five goals on 22 shots in the Capitals loss in New York on Tuesday. It was Holtby’s worst outing of the young season, but the Rangers will do that to a lot of goalies this season. Things do not get any easier for Holtby tonight, when he takes on a Bruins team that leads the NHL with 3.82 goals per games this season.

Braden Holtby
Halak will be in goal on Thursday vs. the Canadiens.

Halak made 23 saves on 24 shots in the Islanders win over the Devils on Tuesday. He got revenge for losing to New Jersey in his previous start and now he sits at 4-1-1 with a 1.65 GAA and .936 SV% on the season. He will be in tough tonight when he takes on his former team in Montreal—the Habs are second in the NHL in scoring, averaging 3.64 goals per game.

Jaroslav Halak
Berra will get the nod on Friday vs. the Rangers.

Berra allowed four goals on 28 shots in the Avs’ loss in Florida on October 27th. Semyon Varlamov has started the last five games, but Colorado will go back to Berra tonight on the second night of a back-to-back. Berra comes into play with a strong 1.79 GAA and .944 SV% in four appearances. However, he should be avoided with the Rangers in town.

Reto Berra
Varlamov will start Thursday in Arizona.

Varlamov allowed three goals on 25 shots in the Avs’ 6-3 win over the Flames on Tuesday. Varlamov has struggled through the first part of the season, but maybe an offensive explosion and a win will get the Avs going. Varlamov draws a strong matchup tonight—Mike Smith has been equally as bad, opening the door for lots of goal support.

Semyon Varlamov
Tavares (illness) will play on Thursday vs. the Canadiens.

Tavares missed the last three games with an illness but will be back in the lineup tonight in Montreal. The Islanders scored just five goals in the three games without Tavares, but they will get their captain back this evening. He has 11 points (5G / 6A) in 10 games this season and should be activated in all formats.

John Tavares
Ramo will start Thursday vs. the Flyers.

Ramo allowed five goals on 41 shots in the Flames 6-3 loss to the Avalanche on Tuesday. Ramo has given up a combined nine goals in two games since being recalled from Stockton, but he will still make his third consecutive start. He has struggled this season, but draws a fabulous matchup tonight—the Flyers have lost five in a row while being outscored 19-8.

Karri Ramo
Miller starts Wednesday vs. the Penguins.

Miller stopped 27 of 28 shots in the Canucks win over the Flyers on Monday. Miller bounced back after a rough outing against Dallas in his previous start. Miller has played well for the Canucks, winning five of 11 starts while posting a 2.06 GAA and .927 SV%. With a few days off, look for him to get the nod vs. Pittsburgh.

The Blue Jackets have recalled Kerby Rychel from Lake Erie (AHL).

Rychel has 10 points (4G / 6A) in six games with Lake Erie this season, earning the promotion to the NHL with David Clarkson going on IR. Rychel, the former 19th overall pick, has three assists in six NHL games.
