Murphy left Thursday’s game with a lower-body injury and did not return.

Murphy had to be helped off of the ice after he appeared to suffer a knee injury. Murphy played just 2:50 before retiring to the dressing for the night. Consider him questionable for Saturday’s game vs. the Saturday’s game in San Jose.

Ryan Murphy
Timonen (blood clots) will resume skating on Friday.

Timonen, 39, has not played since being diagnosed with blood clots in his leg and lungs in August. Timonen said his plan was to skate on his own for seven to 10 days, and if that goes well, join the Flyers for practice. If Timonen can return, it would be a huge boost for the Flyers blue line, he had 35 points (6G / 29A) in 77 games a season ago.

Kimmo Timonen
Niemi starts in goal for San Jose.

Niemi allowed four goals on 40 shots in the Sharks shocking loss to Edmonton on Monday. He did not start last night, so it looks like he will face Vancouver tonight. In his first start against the Canucks he allowed three goals on 19 shots in a 3-2 loss. In 18 road starts, Niemi is 10-6-2 with a 2.54 GAA and .921 SV%.

Antti Niemi
Varlamov leads the Avalanche onto the ice for warmups.

Varlamov allowed two goals on 32 shots in the Avs win over the Stars on Tuesday. He has won three of his last four starts while posting a 1.93 GAA and .932 SV%. Varlamov gets the nod vs. the Red Wings are the Pepsi Center—he is 9-4-1 with a 2.11 GAA and .934 SV% at home

Semyon Varlamov
Lehtonen leads the Stars onto the ice for warmups.

Lehtonen allowed two goals on 24 shots in the Stars 2-1 shootout loss to the Avalanche on Tuesday. The loss snapped a modest two-game winning streak for Lehtonen, who has a terrible matchup tonight with the high-scoring Lightning in town. Lehtonen is 10-6-6 with a 2.90 GAA and .902 SV% at home.

Kari Lehtonen
Quick starts for the Kings.

Quick surrendered four goals on 27 shots in the Kings 4-0 loss to the Capitals on Tuesday. Quick has just one win in his last 10 starts and he has posted an ugly 3.71 GAA and .875 SV% over that span. He will go head-to-head with Roberto Luongo, who is also struggling right now.

The Jets have recalled Patrice Cormier from St. John’s (AHL).

Cormier, 24, has been recalled on a number of occasions this season, but has yet to make his season debut. He has 10 points (5G / 5A) in 24 games with the St. John’s IceCaps this season.

Patrice Cormier
The Jets have placed Evander Kane (undisclosed) on injured reserve.

It has been a crazy day for Evander Kane news and this is the latest development. His IR move is retroactive to January 2nd, which means he will miss at least the next two games with whatever it is that is bothering him. Monitor his status leading up to next Tuesday’s game vs. the Wild.

Evander Kane
Miller will be in goal vs. San Jose.

Miller gave up three goals on 19 shots in the Canucks loss to the Wild on Super Bowl Sunday. He was given Tuesday night off, but he will start tonight vs. San Jose. Miller enters play having lost three of four while registering a 2.84 GAA and .876 SV%. He is 2-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .956 SV% against the Sharks this season.

Ryan Miller
Kane did not show up for the Jets game on Tuesday after a run-in with teammates.

It was originally believed that Kane was scratched from the game, but he decided to skip the game. Kane wore a track suit when the Jets players gathered that morning — a violation of team policy. Following a brief workout and stretch, Byfuglien is said to have thrown those clothes into the shower to send a message to his teammate, according to sources. That was the last the Winnipeg players saw of Kane until the team’s charter flight home. This is getting juicy, stay tuned.

Evander Kane
McBain in; McNabb out.

McBain has been a healthy scratch in every games since January 8th vs. the Rangers. He has collected seven points (2G / 5A) in 16 games this season. Look for him to be paired with Robyn Regehr and pick up some power-play time on the second unit.

Jamie McBain
Smith will start in goal for the Coyotes.

Smith stopped 30 of 31 shots in the Coyotes 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Smith has won two of three with a 2.59 GAA and .908 SV%. While he has played well as of late and draws a strong matchup tonight, Smith is still a risky start in all formats. He made 32 saves in a 3-0 loss in his first start vs. Carolina.

Mike Smith
Elliott will replace Barrie (hip flexor) in every situation.

Elliott, 24, will make his season debut tonight vs. Detroit. Replacing Barrie in all situations means that Elliott will play on the Avs’ top-pair with Nate Guenin as well as power-play time, likely on the top-unit. Elliott has 18 points (6G / 12A) in 58 career NHL games. He has 12 goals and 14 assists (26 points) in 40 games with Lake Erie (AHL) this season.

Stefan Elliott
Corrado (illness) will miss his second straight game.

The addition of Adam Clendening has not pushed Corrado back to the AHL yet, but he still won’t be in the lineup tonight while he continues to fight an illness. His next chance to get back into the lineup is Saturday vs. the visiting Penguins.
