NHL Hockey Player News

The Maple Leafs have sent goalie Christopher Gibson back to Toronto (AHL).

Gibson was recalled to backup James Reimer for the last two games because Jonathan Bernier was out with an illness. With Gibson going back to the minors, Bernier is obviously ready to go on Wednesday vs. the Bruins.

Chris Gibson
Ward will start on Wednesday vs. the Penguins.

Ward allowed two goals on 18 shots in the Hurricanes 3-1 loss to the Canadiens on Monday. He has lost his last three games, despite only allowing two goals in each contest and posting a .933 SV%. He will need more goal support tonight as he gets the call in goal in Pittsburgh.

Cam Ward
Scrivens starts for the Oilers.

Scrivens stopped 20 of 21 shots after replacing Viktor Fasth in the Oilers 4-1 loss to the Flames on Saturday. In 16 starts and three relief appearances since October 27th, Scrivens is 1-10-5 with a 3.29 GAA and .900 SV%. It has been a brutal season and there are no signs of it turning around right now.

Ben Scrivens
Schneider will start vs. Detroit on Wednesday.

Schneider stopped 27 of 28 shots in the Devils 3-1 win over the Penguins on Monday. Of course he plays poorly in good match ups, but well in bad match ups. Tonight, he will make his 12th start in December, he has gone 3-7-1 with a 2.16 GAA and .927 SV% in the first 11.

Cory Schneider
Rinne will start his second game in as many nights.

Rinne surrendered four goals on 42 shots in the Predators 5-4 shootout loss to the Blackhawks last night. Despite the heavy workload, coach Laviolette will go back to him tonight vs. St. Louis. Rinne is a fantasy darling because he is playing great and he is on-pace to start 72 of 82 games this season.

Pekka Rinne
The Blues have placed Chris Porter (leg) on injured reserve.

Porter sustained a leg injury in the Blues 3-0 win over the Avalanche last night. He left the game and did not return. Coach Hitchcock said that Porter will be re-evaluated in six weeks.

Chris Porter
Elliott (knee) will be back in goal for the Blues tonight.

Elliott has not started a game since November 25th vs. the Senators. He stopped all 16 shots that night before leaving the game with a knee injury. Elliott has been great this season, he is 8-4-1 with an 1.82 GAA and .931 SV% in 14 starts. Tonight he will face a Predators team who should be low on gas because they are coming off of a 5-4 shootout loss to the Blackhawks last night.

Brian Elliott
Montoya will likely be in goal for the Panthers on Wednesday.

Montoya allowed four goals on 32 shots i nthe Panthers loss to the Sabres on December 13th. Roberto Luongo started the last six games, but it looks like it will be Montoya tonight in New York. He is 2-2-2 with a 2.26 GAA and .915 SV% on the year.

Al Montoya
Luongo will start for the Panthers on Tuesday.

Luongo allowed four goals on 22 shots in the Panthers 6-4 win over the Maple Leafs on Sunday. Luongo has won five of his last six while posting a 2.23 GAA and .915 SV%—four of those five victories have come in the shootout, which he 5-3 in this season. Tonight he takes on the Habs at home, where he is 8-3-2 with a 2.30 GAA and .917 SV% this year.

Roberto Luongo
The Lightning have recalled Andrei Vasilevskiy from Syracuse (AHL).

There is no word on any injury to Ben Bishop or Evgeni Nabokov at this time, but Vasilevskiy will join the Lightning in Buffalo for Wednesday’s game. Vasilevskiy was excellent in his time with the Lightning while Ben Bishop was injured—he went 2-1-0 with a 2.01 GAA and .940 SV%.

Andrei Vasilevskiy
Greiss (mumps) is set to return to his backup role.

Greiss has missed the last five games with mumps, but with Jeff Zatkoff being sent back to the AHL this morning, Greiss is obviously ready to reclaim his spot as the Penguins backup goalie. He is 3-2-2 with a 2.53 GAA and .919 SV% this season. The Penguins have a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday, so look for him to start one of those games.

The Penguins have reassigned Jeff Zatkoff to Wilkes-Barre Scranton (AHL).

Zatkoff heads back to the AHL where he ranks fourth in the league in GAA (1.85) and 10th in SV% (.925) while posting a 10-6-1 record. His return to the minors means that Thomas Greiss is set to return after missing time with the mumps.
