NHL Hockey Player News

Halak was the first goalie off of the ice at the Capitals morning skate.

Halak stopped 27 of 29 shots in a 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs on Sunday. Halak has won three of his first five starts with the Capitals, while posting a 2.42 GAA and .924 SV%. Tonight he will start vs. Hiller in Anaheim. The Ducks started out as one of the best home teams in the NHL, but have dropped six of their last eight at the Honda Center.

Jaroslav Halak
Bryzgalov vs. Nilsson on Long Island tonight.

Bryzgalov gave up two goals on 22 shots in his Minnesota Wild debut on March 9. He has sat back and watched Darcy Kuemper makes the last four starts, but on the tail-end of a back-to-back it looks like Bryz will make his second start. It is a strong matchup against and Isles team who have lost five of eight.

Ilya Bryzgalov
Lehtonen expected to be back in goal for the Stars.

Lehtonen missed the last four games with a concussion, but was the first goalie off of the ice at the Stars morning skate in Pittsburgh. Lehtonen has gone 25-16-10 with a 2.47 GAA and .917 SV% this season. The first time he faced the Penguins, he posted a 24-save shutout. That night the Penguins were healthy, tonight they could be without Neal, Kunitz, Letang, Martin and more.

Kari Lehtonen
Lieuwen will make his first NHL start.

Lieuwen stopped all 10 shots that he faced in the final 21:45 after replacing an injured Jhonas Enroth on Sunday. The 22-year-old was 17-11-2 with a 2.34 GAA and .922 SV% with Rochester (AHL) before being recalled. He draws a solid matchup in his first NHL start as the Sabres prepare to take on the Flames in Calgary.

Nathan Lieuwen
Rinne starts for the Predators.

Rinne allowed four goals on 26 shots in Saturday's loss to the Blues. Rinne has gone 2-4-0 in six starts since returning to the Predators crease. While the record is not great, you have to note that he has posted a 2.50 GAA and .913 while facing the Blues (twice), Blackhawks, Penguins , Blue Jackets and Sens… Not the best matchups to say the least. The worst part of it all for Rinne, is that his teammates have scored just 10 goals (1.67 G/PG) in his six starts.

Pekka Rinne
No surprise, Niemi in goal vs. Florida.

Niemi stopped all 41 shots that he faced in a 1-0 win over the Rangers on Sunday. He has been magnificent since the calendar turned to March. He has won all five starts while posting a 1.60 GAA, .946 SV% and two shutouts. With the fantasy playoffs in full swing in most leagues, there is no better time for Niemi to be playing his best hockey of the season. He is a must-start vs. the Panthers, but you already knew that.

Antti Niemi
Neuvirth (lower-body) is not on the ice for the Sabres' morning skate.

Neuvirth will not start tonight vs. Calgary, so either Nathan Lieuwen or Matt Hackett will get the call. Neuvirth is set skate alone after practice, consider him day-to-day.

Michal Neuvirth
Hiller will start in goal for the Ducks.

Hiller allowed four goals on 38 shots in a win over the Avalanche on Friday. Hiller has given up 12 goals in his last four games, going 1-1-2 in the process. Tonight, he will start vs. Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals in Anaheim. After being unbeatable at home to start the year, Hiller has lost five of his last six starts at the Honda Center.

Jonas Hiller
Crawford will start in goal vs. the Blues on Wednesday.

Crawford is coming off a solid game saving 19 of 20 shots in a 4-1 win over the struggling Red Wings. Crawford has won three of his last four games while only allowing six goals on 81 shots (.926 SV%) however he is facing a red-hot Ryan Miller on Wednesday. Crawford is 0-1-1 with a 2.41 GAA and .919 SV% in his first two meetings with the Blues.

Corey Crawford
Fasth will be in goal for the Oilers.

Fasth stopped 22 of 23 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Red Wings on Friday. He has turned aside 40 of the 44 shots (.926 SV%) he has faced in his first two starts with the Oiler. He and Ben Scrivens have solidified the Oilers crease lately, but hinder each other's fantasy value due to the platoon. Tonight, e should make for a strong spot start vs. the Predators.

The Red Wings have reassigned Jordin Tootoo to Grand Rapids (AHL).

On Sunday, Tootoo saw just 7:20 TOI in his first game since December 21. He will return to the AHL with the Red Wings electing to recall Landon Ferraro and moving Brendan Smith from defence to forward.

Jordin Tootoo
Anderson (undisclosed) is still feeling the ill effects from the collision with Milan Michalek.

Anderson said he believes he would be hurting the team if he tried to play tonight. He added that he would not play until he can help the team and that he has no firm timetable when he believes that will be. Continue to monitor this situation on a day-to-day basis.

Craig Anderson
Raanta starts for the Hawks, saving Crawford for Wednesday vs. Blues.

Raanta stopped 26 of 29 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Avalanche on Wednesday. Raanta has been great when called upon this season, but with Corey Crawford playing as a top-10 goalie, Raanta has not seen much action as of late. He recorded the W in his first start vs. Philly, but all three of his regulation losses have come on the road this season (5-3-1 / 3.11 / .885).

Antti Raanta
Stastny (back) will play tonight in Montreal.

Stastny has missed the last four games with a back injury, but will return tonight. Stastny will return to his regular spot between Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon. He has tallied 20 goals and 27 assists (47 points) with a plus-10 rating in 58 games this season.

Paul Stastny
Lundqvist starts for the Rangers.

Lundqvist stopped 28 of 29 shots in a 1-0 loss to the Sharks on Sunday. Lundqvist was out-duelled by Antti Niemi who stopped 41 shots. You can't blame Lundqvist for that one, but he should be able to get back in the win column tonight in Ottawa. The Senators have lost five of their last six games.
