NHL Hockey Player News

Looks like Brodeur starts tonight.

Brodeur stopped 29 of 30 shots in a win over the Canadiens on Tuesday. The win moved him to 13-9-4 with a 2.33 GAA and .905 SV% on the season. Tonight he faces a Coyotes team how are 2-6-0 while being outscored 23-16 in their last eight.

Martin Brodeur
Dubnyk starts tonight for the Predators.

Dubnyk will make his Predators debut tonight after being traded for Matt Hendricks on Wednesday. On one of the NHL's worst defensive teams he was 11-17-2 with a 3.36 GAA and .894 SV%. In Nashville he will play behind a much stingier defensive unit which should help improve his overall numbers. It might be difficult to make a good first impression when he faces the 30-12-5 Avalanche. In his two previous games against Colorado he was 1-1-0 with a 2.54 GAA and .932 SV%.

Devan Dubnyk
Bobrovsky starts for the Blue Jackets.

Bobrovsky allowed one goal on 27 shots in a 5-1 win over the Caps on Friday. He will go again tonight in the second game of the back-to-back vs. the Sabres. He is 4-0-0 with a 1.47 GAA and .955 SV% since returning to the Columbus crease. He should make for a great start and move to 5-0 in Buffalo tonight.

Sergei Bobrovsky
Niemi back in goal for the Sharks.

Niemi stopped 35 of 36 shots in a shootout win over the Capitals on Tuesday. He was given Thursday night off so there is no surprise that he is back in the crease this afternoon against the Lightning. He stopped 36 of 37 shots in a 5-1 win the first time he started vs. Tampa Bay. He has been relatively inconsistent this season, but overall he has been very good - Niemi is currently second in the NHL in wins with 24.

Antti Niemi
Mason starts for the Flyers.

Mason gave up three goals on 37 shots in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Predators on Thursday. In Mason's last three starts we have seen him allow 11 goals while posting an .849 SV%. He will see the Islanders for the third time this season, in the first two games he went 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .939 SV%. Hopefully a matchup against a team he has had success against will help get him back on track.

Steve Mason
Miller gets the nod in goal for the Sabres.

Miller was handed his first loss to the Maple Leafs on Wednesday. He allowed three goals on 39 shots in the 4-3 shootout defeat. It was another good outing in terms of save percentage but Miller allowed all three shootout attempts and didn't give his squad much of a chance. The first time he took on the Blue Jackets he allowed four goals on 33 shots in a 4-1 loss back in October.

Ryan Miller
Khudobin looks to be the Hurricanes starter.

Khudobin allowed two goals on 29 shots in a 2-0 loss to the Flames on Monday. Despite having three goalies on the roster, Khudobin has recently separated himself with Cam Ward on IR. Since returning to the Carolina crease he is 4-2-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .938 SV% and should make for a good start tonight vs. Florida.

Anton Khudobin
Poulin in goal for the Islanders.

Poulin surrendered a single goal on 30 shots in a 2-1 victory over the Lightning on Thursday. It was Poulin's 10th win of the season and his sixth victory in his last seven games. The Isles have been one of the NHL's hottest team in the last month and they will face a Flyers team who has cooled off recently, losing three of their last four.

The Wild have reassigned Jonathon Blum to Iowa (AHL).

Blum recorded no points and two shots in four games with the Wild. He will return to Iowa and play tonight and could find himself recalled shortly. However this could also suggest that Jared Spurgeon is nearing activation from IR.

Jonathon Blum
Sedin (undisclosed) is questionable to play tonight vs. the Flames.

Sedin has played in an amazing 678 straight games for the Canucks, a streak that is in jeopardy tonight. We are hearing that there is about a 50/50 chance that Sedin will play. Monitor his status at the morning skate and again tonight during warmups.

Henrik Sedin

The Maple Leafs have recalled Troy Bodie from Toronto (AHL).

With David Clarkson and Frazer McLaren recently placed on IR the Leafs were down to just 11 forwards. Bodie is now their 12th forward and will likely be in the lineup tonight vs. the Habs, unless they decide to go with seven defensemen.

Troy Bodie
The Canucks should have Burrows (jaw) back in the lineup on Saturday.

Burrows has not played since December 1 because of a broken jaw but worth a pickup next week, because he will likely slide onto the first line next to the Sedin twins on Saturday. He has recorded just three assists in 17 games this season, but is a four-time 20 goal scorer and has a career-high of 35 goals (2009-10) so he should be considered a low-risk, high-reward mid-season addition.

Alexandre Burrows
Santorell (arm) is doubtful for Saturday vs. Calgary.

Santorelli reportedly left the arena in a sling after getting in injured in Thursday's loss to the Coyotes. Santorelli enjoyed some early success this season, but has just one goal in his last nine games and has found himself on the fourth line in the Canucks most recent games. Monitor his status prior to Saturday's contest.

Mike Santorelli
Pavelec is expected to start in goal for the Jets on Saturday.

Pavelec stopped 20 of 22 shots in a 5-2 win over the Flames on Thursday. Pavelec has not seen much action in the two games since Paul Maurice was hired, he is 2-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .927 SV%. He draws a strong matchup tomorrow afternoon with the Oilers in town.

Ondrej Pavelec
Bryzgalov starts on Saturday vs. the Jets.

Bryzgalov allowed four goals on 29 shots in a loss to the Stars on Tuesday. The Oilers acquired Ben Scrivens on Wednesday so Bryzalov will need to start playing better if he doesn't want to become a back-up. On Saturday afternoon he will face a Jets team who are 2-0 and have outscored their opponent 10-3 since hiring Paul Maurice.

Ilya Bryzgalov
Parenteau (knee) said after today's practice that he is targeting a return for Tuesday's game vs. Toronto.

Parenteau has missed the last nine games, but returning on Tuesday would be way ahead of schedule. He was not originally expected to be back until February, which likely meant after the Olympics. He could be avaialble on the waiver wire because he was expected to miss six weeks.

P.A. Parenteau
Jones (eye) will travel with the team on their two-game road-trip.

The road-trip begins on Saturday in Vancouver and wraps up on Monday in San Jose. Jones has missed the last seven games with an eye infection, but traveling with the squad suggest that he could return to the lineup in one of the two games.
