NHL Hockey Player News

The Coyotes recalled Jordan Szwarz from Portland (AHL) on Monday.

Szwarz has recorded two goals in 20 games with the Coyotes this season. While in the AHL, the 22-year-old has seven points (4G / 3A) in 12 games. He has been recalled to provide depth at forward fro the Coyotes, no word on if he will be in the lineup tonight.

Jordan Szwarz
The Flames recalled Ben Street from the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) on Sunday.

Street leads the Abbotsford Heat in scoring with 17 goals and 16 assists for 33 points in 31 games including the overtime game winning goal tonight in a 3-2 win over San Antonio. He was recently named to the 2014 AHL All-Star Team. Street played eight games with the Flames earlier this season picking up one assist.

Ben Street
Cammalleri has a concussion and did not travel with the Flames on their two-game road trip.

Cammalleri will not play tonight or tomorrow and is questionable for the other two games this week (Thursday and Saturday). There is no word when Cammalleri suffered the concussion, but the Flames have recalled Ben Street to replace Cammalleri.

Michael Cammalleri
Tatar (personal) will miss Thursday's game against the Rangers due to the passing of his father.

Tatar honoured his dad by scoring a goal and adding an assist the day after his passing. He has amassed 19 points (10G / 9A) in 38 games and is worth a look in deep leagues, especially if he sticks in the top-6 when the Red Wings start getting healthy.

Tomas Tatar
Khudobin is practicing in the starter's crease which usually indicates who is getting the nod in goal.

Khudobin gave up three goals on 24 shots in a 3-0 loss to the Blue Jackets on Friday. It was his first loss since returning from an ankle injury, he is 4-1-0 with a 1.99 GAA and .939 SV% in his last five starts. He should make for a great start against a Flames team who have lost seven of his last eight games while being outscored 26-6.

Anton Khudobin
Bobrovsky starts for the Blue Jackets.

Bobrovsky stopped all 36 shots he faced to record his second shutout of the season on Friday. Bobrovsky has been excellent since returning from a groin injury, he is 2-0-0 while stopping 76 of 79 shots (.962 SV%). He will take on the Lightning for the second time this season, the first time around he stopped all 18 shots that he faced in 44 minutes before suffering a groin injury that cost him more than a month.

Sergei Bobrovsky
Getzlaf (foot) is out tonight and is listed as day-to-day.

Getzlaf missed the third period of Saturday's contest after taking a puck to the foot in the second period. The good news is that x-rays came back negative and he is not expected to miss and extended period of time. Monitor his status at Ducks practice leading up to Wednesday's game vs. Vancouver.

Ryan Getzlaf
Hiller leads the Ducks onto the ice for warmups, he starts against Detroit.

Hiller allowed three goals on 31 shots in a 5-3 win over the Coyotes last night. He gets the nod for both games of the back-to-back as he searches for his 14th consecutive win. The last goalie to win 13 starts in a row was the Red Wings Chris Osgood in 1996. He will face Detroit tonight, in their first meeting Hiller stopped 16 of 18 shots in a 5-2 win.

Jonas Hiller
Datsyuk (groin) remains out for the Red Wings.

Datsyuk will miss his fourth straight game tonight. The Red Wings are off until Thursday after tonight, so even if Datsyuk is close, they are giving him the extra rest until they face the Rangers on Thursday.

Pavel Datsyuk
Alfredsson (back spasms) will not play tonight.

Alfredsson did not play on Saturday night and will be forced to miss tonight's contest vs. the Ducks as well. The Red Wings are off until Thursday, so they are likely taking the safe route with their injury forwards, as Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen and Darren Helm all won't play either.

Jonathan Bernier leads the Leafs onto the ice for warmups, he starts vs. the Devils

Bernier allowed three goals on 35 shots Friday's 3-2 loss to the Capitals. After a tremendous performance in the Winter Classic, Bernier has limped to an 0-3-0 record with a 4.00 GAA and .868 SV%. He has a good chance to find the win column tonight against a Devils team who have scored just 16 goals in their last nine games (1.77 G/PG).

Jonathan Bernier
Ellis leads the Stars onto the ice for warmups; he starts.

Ellis was pulled after allowing three goals on 13 shots in the first period vs. the Red Wings on January 4. He never looked comfortable against Detroit, but will get the call tonight vs. the Islanders after they pushed seven past Kari Lehtonen on Monday. The Isles have won eight of their last 11, and Ellis has a 3.28 GAA and .897 SV%, only spot-start if you are desperate.

Dan Ellis
Raanta starts for the Blackhawks in the second game of back-to-back.

Raanta shut the door on 24 of 27 shots in a win over the Devils on January 3. The 24-year-old rookie has been great this season, he is 11-1-3 with a 2.27 GAA and .911 SV% in his first 14 NHL starts. He draws a strong Sunday matchup vs. the Oilers.

Antti Raanta
Poulin in goal for the Islanders.

Poulin stopped 30 of 31 shots in a 2-1 OT win over the Avalanche on Friday. All of a sudden Poulin has won four straight games with a 2.62 GAA and .908 SV%. He is filling-in for the injured Evgeni Nabokov much better than he did the first time around. The Islanders are winners of eight of their last 11, so Poulin could make for a decent Sunday spot-start if your desperate.

Kevin Poulin
Luongo (ankle) participated in his first practice since getting injured on January 4.

"I'm going on the road trip, but I don't know when I'll be playing yet," said Luongo. "There needs to be more progression. This was my first practice back." The Canucks begging their three-game road-trip on Monday in Los Angeles, then face the Ducks and Coyotes on a back-to-back on Wednesday and Thursday. Monitor Bobby Lu's status throughout the week.

Roberto Luongo
Getzlaf (lower-body) did not skate at the Ducks optional skate this afternoon.

Getzlaf was in the building but did not skate, his status for tonight's game against the Red Wings remains unclear. Getzlaf did not play in the third period on Saturday after he was hit by a puck in the leg during the second period. X-rays after the game came back negative, so he is not expected to miss a lengthy period of time, but he is questionable for tonight.

Ryan Getzlaf
Miller leads the Sabres onto the ice for warmups; he starts.

Miller stopped 21 of 22 shots in a win over the Devils last Saturday. After a long layoff because of a postponed game on Tuesday, Miller will be back in the cage this afternoon in Washington. In his first start against the Capitals he stopped 49 of 50 shots in a 2-1 shootout win on December 29.

Ryan Miller
Mazanec starts back-to-back games for Predators.

Mazanec gave up a single goal on 21 shots in Saturday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Senators. He was not overly busy last night, so there is a good chance that Trotz will look Mazanec's way again tonight vs. Minnesota. He has yet to face the Wild in his NHL career, but enters play tonight 5-6-2 with a 2.88 GAA and .899 SV% at home.

Marek Mazanec
Grubauer starts vs. the Sabres this afternoon.

Grubauer stopped 33 of 36 shots in a win over the Lightning on Thursday. He will make his seventh start in the Capitals last nine games and the starter's job appears to be his to lose. He is 6-2-3 with a 2.27 GAA and .931 SV%, so you can see why Adam Oates has put so much trust in him. The first time he played against Buffalo, he allowed one goal on 17 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss.
