NHL Hockey Player News

Quick was the first goalie off of the ice at the Kings morning skate; expected to start.

Quick allowed two goals on 22 shots in a 4-2 win over the Bruins on Thursday. He is now 2-0-1 with a 1.30 GAA and .940 SV% in three starts since returning from his grade 2 groin strain which cost him nearly two months. Tonight he will face a Red Wings squad without four of their top-9 forwards, should be able to start him without worry.

Jonathan Quick
Grigorenko will not report to the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL).

Grigorenko’s agent, Jay Grossman, confirmed to the Times Herald that Grigorenko won’t be reporting to the Remparts. Grossman declined further comment until he and Grigorenko speak to the team. The Sabres obviously believe going back to juniors is best for Grigorenko's future, but the 19-year-old wants to play in the NHL. Monitor this situation going forward.

Mikhail Grigorenko
Backstrom starts for the WIld.

Backstrom stopped 39 of 40 shots in a win over the Coyotes on Thursday. Backstrom has looked like the Backstrom of old recently. He has won three straight starts while allowing just five goals and posting a .944 SV%. He will face the Avalanche for the first time this season, he is currently 2-2-2 with a 2.55 GAA and .894 SV% at Xcel Energy Center this season.

Niklas Backstrom
Niemi starts for the Sharks.

Niemi stopped 24 of 25 shots in a 4-1 win over the Red Wings on Thursday. The win moved him to second in the NHL with 23 wins, two behind Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury. Niemi will face Boston tonight, who scored twice on 19 shots in 2-1 Bruins win on October 24.

Antti Niemi
Sergei Bobrovsky on the ice this morning would seem to indicate that Curtis McElhinney starts tonight.

McElhinney allowed six goals on 37 shots in a 6-2 loss to the Blues last Saturday. With Bobrovsky back and playing well, McElhinney has been bumped back into the back-up role. With the Blue Jackets playing three games in four days, Bobrovsky will likely get a break tonight and be back in the cage on Monday.

Curtis McElhinney
Pavelec is in goal for the Jets.

Pavelec gave up three goals on 32 shots in a loss to the Lightning on Tuesday. It has been tough sledding for Pav lately, he has not won a game since December 20, a streak of five straight losses. In those five losses he has allowed 18 goals while posting a paltry .852 SV%.

Ondrej Pavelec
Anderson was confirmed on Friday, something went wrong with my post. (Apologies).

Anderson allowed four goals on 31 shots in an OT loss to the Avalanche on Wednesday. The loss ruined a five-game winning streak for Anderson, but he will look to get back in the W column tonight in Nashville. Anderson is 4-0-1 with a 2.79 GAA and .914 SV% in his last five starts.

Craig Anderson
Price starts for the Canadiens.

Price allowed one goals on 27 shots in a win over the Panthers on Monday. It was a good outing for Price who had given up 13 goals in his three previous starts. Despite losing three of their last four games, the Blackhawks remain a scary matchup for fantasy netminders, take a look at your other options before immediately deploying Price.

Carey Price
Greiss starts for the Coyotes.

Greiss stopped all 27 shots that he faced in a 6-0 win over the Flames on Tuesday. He has stopped the last 42 shots that he has faced in the last game and a half that he has played. He draws a terrible matchup against the Ducks and a red-hot Jonas Hiller who has won 12 straight.

Thomas Greiss
Thomas starts for the Panthers.

Thomas stopped 23 of 24 shots in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Sabres. The win moved Thomas to .500 on the season (11-11-2) to got along with his 2.60 GAA and .914 SV%. He draws a favourable matchup against New Jersey, they rank 26th in the NHL with 2.31 goals per game.

Looks like Backstrom is in net for the Wild.

Niemi is the Sharks' likely starter.

The Sabres have sent Mikhail Grigorenko back to the Quebec Remparts (QMJHL).

"We're not looking at what he can do now," said Sabres head coach Ted Nolan. "We're looking at what he can do down the road."The Sabres are not going anywhere this season, so going back to juniors is likely best for Grigorenko's development. He will likely shred the QMJHL when he returns, he posted 70 goals and 69 assists (139 points) in 92 career games during his first two seasons with Quebec.

Mikhail Grigorenko
Varlamov gets the start in both games of the Avalanche back-to-back.

Varlamov allowed two goals on 24 shots in a loss to the Islanders last night. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak, but he will get a chance to bounce back right away when he takes on the Wild tonight. Varly is 1-0-1 with a 1.38 GAA and .953 SV% against Minnesota this season.
