Callahan (knee) appears to be set to return to the Rangers lineup tonight vs. the Penguins.

Callahan has missed the last nine games with a knee injury that he suffered on December 10 vs. the Predators. it looks like he will enter the lineup for Benoit Pouliot and skate on the third line with J.T Miller and Carl Hagelin. Callahan has registered seven goals and six assists (13 points) in 24 games. Callahan is only owned in 40% of Yahoo! leagues, the three-time 20-plus goal scorer would make for a solid addition for teams lacking depth at RW. We will await official word from head coach Alain Vigneault.

Ryan Callahan
Colton Sceviour has been reassigned to the Texas Stars (AHL).

Sceviour, 24, has registered four points (3G / 1A) and a plus-2 rating in eight games with Dallas this season. He scored his first career NHL goal on December 14, 2013 at Winnipeg and two of his three goals have been game-winners. The 6-foot, 200-pound forward leads the AHL with 21 goals and ranks second on Texas with 35 points (21G / 14A) in 29 games.

Colton Sceviour
Jovanovski (hip) has been medically cleared to play on Saturday.

For the past five months the Panthers veteran defenseman has patiently participated in practices and morning skates in a courageous effort to continue his 17-year NHL career following major hip surgery last April. Jovanovski underwent hip resurfacing, which is an alternative to a complete hip replacement, and less invasive because most of the femur bone is left intact. It's believed that no athlete from any of the four major professional sports has ever come back successfully after this relatively new procedure. With Jovanovski set to be activated the Panthers will have to make a roster move.

Neal is skating on the Penguins top-line with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz.

Neal has skated on this line for a few shifts in recent games, but it appears he will skate there in tonight's game vs. the Rangers. Skating with Crosby should obviously help Neal rack up the points. He has four goals and five assists in six games since returning from his five-game suspension. He has totalled 30 points (14G / 16A) in 22 games.

James Neal
Derek MacKenzie will have a phone hearing for his hit on Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson on Thursday.

Ekman-Larsson was injured and did not return to the game, which does not bode well for MacKenzie. He is not expected to face a lengthy suspension, but the fourth-line center will likely miss a couple of games.

Derek MacKenzie
Raffl is out with a concussion.

Raffl was concussed with about three minutes left in the first period after what appeared to be a legal check from Colorado winger Gabriel Landeskog. “He won’t play next game,” said coach Craig Berube, referring to Saturday’s game against the Coyotes. Berube rotated wingers on the top line using Steve Downie, Brayden Schenn and Zac Rinaldo to work with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek, so we won't know who moves to that line until practice or tomorrow's morning skate.

Michael Raffl
Ekman-Larsson left Thursday's game and did not return.

OEL was crunched into the boards by Blue Jackets forward Derek MacKenzie. It appeared to be a shoulder injury and the Coyotes have deemed him day-to-day. Head coach Dave Tippet said that Ekman-Larsson "looked alright" following the loss. The Coyotes are back in action tomorrow, monitor OEL's status during the game-day skate.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Defenseman Danny DeKeyser won’t be at practice Friday listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

The injury could be a groin which means day-to-day could mean a couple of weeks. The Wings have recalled defenseman Alexey Marchenko from Grand Rapids to take his place on the blue line. He’s expected to make his NHL debut Saturday in Dallas. Expect a more detailed injury update to come later in the day or on Saturday.

Dan DeKeyser
The Red Wings have recalled defenseman Alexei Marchenko from Grand Rapids.

Marchenko was a seventh round pick (205 overall) in 2011. He is in his first season with Grand Rapids after playing for CSKA Moscow of the KHL from 2009-13. In 33 games in the AHL he has two goals and 14 assists with a plus-15 rating. There is no word which, if any defenseman is injured for the Red Wings, we should find out at practice today. If he were to make his NHL debut on Saturday it would be the fifth Red Wings defenseman to do so this season.

Alexey Marchenko
Jones leads the Kings onto the ice for warmups.

Jones stopped 29 of 30 shots, but the Kings were unable to beat Antti Raanta, resulting in a 1-0 loss on Monday. Tonight gets the start in St. Louis, he is 4-1-0 with a 1.19 GAA and .964 SV% in five road starts.

Martin Jones
Ramo starts vs. his former team on Friday.

Ramo allowed four goals on 23 shots in a loss to the Penguins on December 21. He was given the next four games off, but will be back in the cage tonight vs. the Lightning, the team who drafted him in 2004. Ramo carries a 3-2-0, 2.34 GAA and .913 SV% at home into tonight's contest.

Karri Ramo
Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul will have a phone hearing on Friday for his cross check on Red Wings forward Justing Abdelkder in the first period of Wednesday's Winter Classic.

Lupul was assessed a two-minute cross-checking minor on the play but could also face a suspension. A phone-hearing means that he won't be suspended for more than five games, which is good news for the Maple Leafs, who have already had a number of key players suspended this season.

Joffrey Lupul
Stamkos (leg) skated today with a no-contact jersey.

Stamkos continues to skate as he works his way back from a broken tibia that he suffered on November 11. His recovery to this point has been extremely promising and impressive as he works his way back for early February and the Sochi Winter Olympics. He had 14 goals and 25 points in 17 games prior to breaking his leg.

Steven Stamkos
Backes (upper-body) is a game-time decision.

Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock said "don't go to the back" that Backes is out tonight. It was reported that he had a great, hard-working practice on Wednesday and could be in the lineup tonight. The Blues will hit the ice for warmups at 7:30 pm EST, monitor Backes' status then.

David Backes
Khudobin will start tonight vs. the Capitals.

Khudobin has not started a game since October 13, a game in which he suffered an ankle injury mid-way through. In his first three starts with the Hurricanes, he has went 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .929 SV%. One of those wins came against the Capitals, who he will face tonight. He stopped 30 of 32 shots in a 3-2 win that evening.

Anton Khudobin
Niemi gets the start for the Sharks.

Niemi allowed five goals on 34 shots in a loss to the Ducks on Tuesday. It was a bad way to close out December for Niemi, who had won his three previous starts. He has a good matchup tonight, at home vs. the Oilers. Niemi has a 13-1-3 record with a 2.19 GAA and .919 SV% in San Jose.

Antti Niemi
Luongo (groin) should be able to dress on Saturday.

Luongo has missed he last three games with a groin injury that he suffered on December 22. The Canucks sent down his replacement Jocaim Eriksson today, suggesting that he is healthy enough to dress or maybe start on Saturday.
