Bryzgalov is not taking part in the Oilers optional skate, suggesting he will get the call tonight.

Bryzgalov allowed three goals on 38 shots in a shootout loss to his former team, the Flyers. Should he start tonight he would face the Coyotes, another former team of his. He has started his Oilers career 2-4-1 with a 2.80 GAA and .916 SV%. Bryz appears to have a slight edge on Dubnyk as the team's number-1.

Ilya Bryzgalov
Niemi is the Sharks projected starter.

Niemi allowed one goal on 31 shots in Sunday's win over the Ducks. The win was his third straight and 21st of the season. Tonight he is expected to take on the Ducks once again. He is 2-0-0 with a 1.93 GAA and .935 SV% against Anaheim.

Antti Niemi
Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has not played since a groin injury forced him to leave the game early on December 3 against Tampa Bay.

If things go according to plan, though, he could be back on the ice in game action very soon. After traveling with the team to Raleigh last week and working with Blue Jackets goaltending coach Ian Clark, Bobrovsky took part in an optional practice on Monday at Nationwide Arena and put some hard work in with Clark and some teammates. His original prognosis in early December was a 4-5 week recovery that put him on track to return sometime in the new year.

Sergei Bobrovsky
Ward starts for the Hurricanes.

Ward allowed four goals on 26 shots in a loss to the Maple Leafs on Sunday. He has not recorded a win since December 6 and has struggled this season posting a 3.10 GAA and .898 SV% in 18 games. He has a tough matchup tonight against a 23-14-3 Canadiens team.

Cam Ward
Alfredsson (back spasms) who missed Monday's game has left the Red Wings practice early, which makes him questionable for Wednesday's Winter Classic.

This is a tough break for Alfredsson who know doubt wants to suit up in the Winter Classic against a Leafs team he is so familiar with. Expect an update on Alfie's status tomorrow morning.

The Hurricanes have recalled Anton Khudobin from Charlotte (AHL).

Khudobin, 27, played two games during his conditioning stint with the Checkers, going 1-1-0 with a 3.03 GAA and .928 SV%. He was named first star of Charlotte’s game on Monday night, stopping 41 shots in the Checkers’ 3-2 win at Rockford. Khudobin played three NHL games this season for the Hurricanes, going 2-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .929 save percentage, prior to suffering an ankle injury on October 13 against Phoenix.

Look for Curtis McElhinney to make the start in goal for Columbus.

McElhinney gave up five goals on 30 shots in a 5-3 loss to the Penguins on Sunday. It was a rough outing for McElhinney, but he should not have been active in fantasy leagues anyways because of the matchup. Tonight he is expected to start in Colorado, he has posted a 2-3-0 record with a 2.92 GAA and .904 SV% on the road.

Curtis McElhinney
The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed left wing Kerby Rychel of the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm to a three-year entry level contract.

Rychel was the club’s second of three first round picks in the 2013 NHL Draft, selected 19th overall. Rychel, 19, has tallied 17 goals and 28 assists for 45 points with 17 penalty minutes and a +16 plus/minus rating to go along with five power play and four game-winning goals in 30 games with Windsor and Guelph this season. Rychel is currently representing Team Canada at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship.

Kerby Rychel
Lehtonen was the first goalie off the ice at the Stars morning skate; he is expected to start.

Lehtonen allowed three goals on 22 shots in an OT loss to the Blues on Sunday. The loss moved him to 5-3-4 with a 2.89 GAA and .914 SV% in December. Tonight he will go for his 16th win of the season when he is expected to face the Kings in Dallas. He won his only start against Los Angeles this season.

Kari Lehtonen
Backes (upper-body) is on the ice for the Blues morning skate.

Backes missed Sunday's game, but his participation in this morning's skate suggests that he could be in the lineup tonight in Minnesota. Backes has been excellent this season, so his return would be a welcomed sight for the Blues and his fantasy owners who have enjoyed 30 points (16G / 14A) in 35 games. Monitor his status following the morning skate.

David Backes
Smith is expected to start in goal after taking off Saturday's game at Anaheim.

Smith allowed three goals on 32 shots in a OT loss to the Sharks on Friday. In December, Smith went 3-2-4 with a 2.26 GAA and .925 SV% and will look too close the month out with a W tonight vs. Edmonton. He is 2-0-0 when facing the Oilers this season.

Mike Smith
Right wing Steve Bernier plans to take pre-game warm-ups and hopes to play in this afternoon’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins after appearing to injure his right shoulder when he crashed into the boards during Monday’s practice.

“Right now, I’m doing (some) treatment and I’m going to take warm-up and see how I feel,” Bernier said this morning. Jacob Josefson will also take warm-ups and play if Bernier is unable to.

Steve Bernier
No morning skate for the Isles today due to the Celtics game at TD Garden. Jack Capuano to address media regarding lineup at 5 PM.

Kevin Poulin started on Sunday so there is a good chance that it will be Evgeni Nabokov tonight vs. the Bruins. However we won't know for sure until 5 PM EST.
