NHL Hockey Player News

The Dallas Stars have placed Aaron Rome on waivers.

Rome waivers could be just for options. If he clears, he has 10-game, 30-day window where he can be assigned. Gives extra forward option. Rome just returned to the Stars after missing the start of the season with a hip injury.

Defenseman Jonas Brodin sustained a broken cheekbone when hit by a dump-in on his second shift of last night's 2-0 win over Nashville.

He is out indefinitely and a timetable will be announced once it's determined. As of now, the Wild says this is relatively good news because there was originally a concern he had a broken jaw. More after practice, but as of now, Matt Dumba has taken Brodin's spot on the No. 2 power-play unit

Jonas Brodin
Cam Talbot will make his NHL debut tomorrow vs Philadelphia.

Talbot is 4-0-1 with a 2.49 GAA and .924 SV% in five appearances with Hartford (AHL) this season. If the Rangers were better offensively and defensively, he might make for a good spot start against the Flyers. However, he would be a risky option.

Cam Talbot
Johnson will make his 11th career starts - first as a Bruin.

Johnson went 2-0-2 with a 1.21 GAA and .954 SV% in four appearances with the Coyotes last season. For a bigger sample size he was 16-15-1 with a 3.00 GAA and .903 SV% with the Portland Pirates (AHL). He won't see a lot of starts behind the workhorse Tuukka Rask, but he could make for a solid spot start on a quiet night in the NHL vs. a 1-8-1 Sabres team.

Chad Johnson
Anderson off the ice first; He starts for the Sabres.

Anderson allowed two goals on 42 shots in a win over the Devils last Thursday. He has had six days off since his last start, so he should be fresh tonight vs. a good Red Wings squad. Ottawa has allowed a ton of shots this season and Anderson has done all he can posting a .924 SV% through six starts.

Craig Anderson
Nikita Zadorov, who made his NHL debut on Saturday, will remain in the lineup tonight vs. Boston.

Zadorov was the 16th pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft, is a big, physical defenseman who loves to throw his weight around. The Sabres have nine-games to decide whether or not they want to keep Zadorov on the roster and burn the first year of his entry-level contract, or send him back to juniors. He had no points in 11:01 TOI in his NHL debut.

Nikita Zadorov
Carl Hagelin, eligible to return to the lineup on Oct. 29, is skating as an extra forward.

Hagelin has missed every game this season after offseason shoulder surgery. His return would help an injury depleted Rangers lineup. He is a speedy-winger who was very streaky last season but finished with 10 goals and 14 assists (24 points) in 48 games.

Carl Hagelin
Brodin was struck in the face by a puck off the stick of Nashville’s Gabriel Bourque at 2:54 of the first period and left Tuesday's game and did not return.

Wild head coach Mike Yeo said Brodin was taken to a hospital for X-rays, but the coach had no update on his condition. This is a tough break for the 20-year-old, who was off to a great start in his sophomore year. He has three goals and three assists (six points) in the Wild's first 10 games while averaging 25:46 TOI (before last night's 1:01).

Jonas Brodin
Rick Nash (concussion) is still not skating with the Rangers.

Nash will miss his fifth straight game tomorrow. There is still no timetable for his return, it is usually difficult to pinpoint an exact timeframe when it comes to concussions. Continue to monitor his status as he works back to health, he could be a buy-low candidate in the near future.

Rick Nash
Nikolai Kulemin skated before the Maple Leafs for the first time since suffering an ankle injury.

Kulemin has missed the Leafs last eight games, but is expected to return at the end of the month or in early November. The Maple Leafs lineup is getting stronger with the return of David Clarkson (suspension) and Kulemin's impending return.
