The Montreal Canadiens have informed defenceman Tomas Kaberle that he will be the team's second and final compliance buyout.

Kaberle has been in a tailspin since being the Leafs' top blueliner. He'll need to be in a consistent top powerplay situation for him to be relevant next season.

#tblightning have bought out the contract of captain Vinny Lecavalier

This makes the former All Star a free agent on July 5. Omitting last year's lockout, Lecavalier has been a reliable 20+ goal scorer and point producer but hasn't reached the level that deserved his massive contract. Expect him to be a significant target this offseason.

St. Louis Blues center Patrik Berglund and the team have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension worth $3.25 million, Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong confirmed Tuesday.

Berglund netted 17 goals in 48 games for fantasy owners last year but didn't provide much else. Still, reliable goal scoring is hard to come by and Berglund should be a good late round stash next season.

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens and a second-round pick from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Jonathan Bernier.

Scrivens went 7-9-0 with a 2.69 GAA and .915 SV% as the Maple Leafs backup to James Reimer this past season. He will find himself in a familiar role in Los Angeles behind one of the NHL's best goalies, Jonathan Quick

Ben Scrivens
The Los Angeles Kings have acquired Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens and a second-round pick from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Jonathan Bernier.

The 25-year-old forward was in and out of the Maple Leafs lineup this season, but showed flashes of scoring ability at the NHL level before getting injured. He had seven goals and six assists (13 points) in 25 games this season. Frattin has just 28 points in 82 career NHL games.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired goalie Jonathan Bernier from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens and a second-round pick.

The 24-year-old netminder went 9-3-1 with a 1.88 GAA and .922 SV% as a backup for Jonathan Quick this season. Bernier is set to become a restricted free agent on July 5th. Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis said in no way should the trade be looked upon as a vote of non-confidence for James Reimer. "It's not a knock on James at all," Nonis said in a conference call. "I don't think you can be deep enough at that position.

Raffi Torres given 3-year extension by Sharks.

Raffi Torres showed the San Jose Sharks during his short stint both the attributes that make him a valuable player and the negatives of his suspension-filled history that sidelined him for the final six games of the playoffs. General manager Doug Wilson decided that the rewards outweighed the risks, signing Torres to a $6-million US, three-year deal Thursday that prevents him becoming an unrestricted free agent July 5.

Defenceman Slava Voynov agreed to a new six-year, $25 million contract Tuesday with the Los Angeles Kings, who signed yet another young cornerstone to a long-term deal.

Voynov had 19 assists and 25 points during the lockout-shortened regular season, his first full NHL campaign. Voynov cemented his reputation as one of the NHL’s top young puck-moving defencemen with 13 points during the post-season, tying for the club scoring lead. He set single-season franchise records with six playoff goals by a defenceman and four game-winning goals.

Sabres sign backup goalie Enroth to 2-year contract extension.

Enroth, who was a restricted free agent, returns for a fourth season in Buffalo. With a 21-18-10 record and three shutouts in 53 career games as Miller's backup, Enroth is coming off a solid spring during which he showed potential of becoming a bona fide starter.

Jhonas Enroth
The Detroit Red Wings accomplished their No. 1 goal of the offseason Tuesday by agreeing to a $22.5 million US, three-year deal with Pavel Datsyuk.

Datsyuk led Detroit with 15 goals and 49 points in the 48-game, lockout-shortened season. The centre was tied for third on the team with nine points in the post-season, which ended in the second round against Chicago. The four-time All-Star and 2009 MVP finalist has 255 goals and 767 points during a career in which he has led a talented team in scoring six times. Datsyuk is sixth on the franchise's all-time scoring list, trailing Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, Alex Delvecchio, Nicklas Lidstrom and Sergei Fedorov.

Rask will start Game 3.

Rask's stellar play in the post-season continued in Game 2 when he allowed just one goal on 34 shots in the 2-1 OT win. The series shifts back to Boston tonight where the Bruins will lean on the home crowd to push them to a 2-1 series lead. Rask continues to lead all playoff goalies in SV% with a .944.

Tuukka Rask
The Dallas Stars on Thursday signed defenseman Kevin Connauton to a three-year contract through the 2015-16 season.

The 23-year-old was acquired by the Stars with a second-round pick in the 2013 draft from the Vancouver Canucks for forward Derek Roy on April 2, and then sent to the American Hockey League. Connauton split his 2012-13 AHL season between the Chicago Wolves and the Texas Stars. He played 69 total games last season with nine goals and 22 assists.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that they've agreed to an eight-year, $76-million US contract extension for 2011-12 NHL Most Valuable Player Evgeni Malkin, who was due to hit the free-agent market next summer.

Malkin will earn $9.5 million US for each season through to the deal's 2021-22 expiration, the club announced. He turns 27 in July, will earn $7.5 million next season under his old deal, with a cap hit of $8.7 million. For his career, he's scored 217 goals and 343 assists for 560 points in 458 games. No stranger to the penalty box, he's compiled 462 penalty minutes.
