The Bruins have recalled goaltender Niklas Svedberg from Providence (AHL).

Svedberg has appeared in 20 games for the Providence this season, racking up an 11-5-3 record with a 2.91 GAA, .907 SV% and one shutout.? The 24-year-old netminder has played in a total of 68 games for Providence since joining the team in 2012, earning a career 48-13-5 AHL record. The 2012-13 campaign with the P-Bruins saw Svedberg win 37 games (2nd in the AHL) with a 2.17 GAA (5th), .925 SV% (3rd) and four shutouts to earn himself the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award, which is given annually to the AHL’s outstanding goaltender.

Harding is back with the Wild after being off to receive treatment for multiple sclerosis.

Harding has been excellent in the first (almost) half of the season. He has started the season 18-5-3 with a 1.51 GAA and .939 SV%. There is no word if he will jump right back into the net tonight vs. Winnipeg or if Niklas Backstrom will make one more start.

The Wild have recalled Stephane Veilleux from Iowa (AHL).

With Zach Parise nursing a lower-body injury, the Wild have recalled Veilleux, who skated in his 11th game this season on Monday. He has no points and a minus-5 rating this season.

Stephane Veilleux
Russell (knee) is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Russell has a second degree MCL sprain and won't return until late January or early February. This is a terrible break for the Flames as Russell has been one of their better defenseman this season. He has totalled four goals and 12 assists (16 points) in 36 games. Christopher Breen is expected to play full-time for the first time in his NHL career while Russell is out.

Kris Russell
Ericsson suffered two fractured ribs in Monday's 3-0 loss to the New York Islanders at Joe Louis Arena and will be out three-to-five weeks, general manager Ken Holland said.

Ericsson is severe blow to the already decimated Wings' lineup. If you were relying on him for fantasy purposes, consider that Jakub Kindl will received increased playing time, but you can probably find better options on your waiver wire.

Jonathan Ericsson
Jones leads the Kings onto the ice for warmups; he starts.

Jones stopped 23 of 25 to earn his eighth straight win on Saturday. The streak continues as he moved to 8-0-0 with a 0.98 GAA and .966 SV% to start his NHL career. He will take on the Stars at home tonight, Jones has given up just three goals in four starts in L.A.

Martin Jones
Rask leads the Bruins onto the ice for warmups; he starts.

Rask stopped 34 of 35 shots in a 4-1 win over the Sabres on Saturday. He has won four of his last five starts while allowing just eight goals in that span. He takes on the Predators and their 25th ranked offence tonight - he is a must start.

Tuukka Rask
There were rumors the past hour that Zach Parise would miss tonight's game against the Flyers. The Wild has just confirmed he has a lower-body injury.

This will be Parise's second game missed this season, the last with a foot injury that hasn't healed yet. I don't know if this is related. We'll have more from coach Mike Yeo after the game hopefully. Parise has one assist and is minus-7 on the 1-6-1 road slide. Justin Fontaine will draw into the lineup.

Zach Parise
McKenna leads the Blue Jackets onto the ice for warmups and will end up getting the start instead of Curtis McElhinney.

McKenna allowed three goals on 32 shots in a loss to the Jets on December 16. He has not recorded a win in three games and has posted a 3.02 GAA and .901 SV%, He has a solid spot-start matchup against the Hurricanes tonight, but picking him up this late is unlikely.

Mike McKenna
Smith leads the Coyotes onto the ice for warmups.

Smith stopped 37 of 40 shots in a come from behind win over the Senators on Saturday. The win snapped a three game losing streak and was his 15th of the season. He has posted a 3-2-2 record with a 2.24 GAA and .926 SV% in December and has a great matchup in Buffalo tonight.

Mike Smith
Peters leads the Hurricanes onto the ice for warmups.

Peters stopped 47 of 50 shots in a 3-2 OT loss to the Lightning on Saturday. After the great performance on the weekend, it would be surprising to see the Hurricanes go to Cam Ward. Despite sharing the crease, Peters is 3-1-2 with a 1.64 GAA and .948 SV% in December.

Justin Peters
Smith expected to start for the Coyotes.

Mike Smith
Rask is the Bruins expected tendy tonight.

Rask stopped 34 of 35 shots in a 4-1 win over the Sabres on Saturday. He has won four of his last five starts while allowing just eight goals in that span. He takes on the Predators and their 25th ranked offence tonight - he is a must start.

Tuukka Rask
Stars defenseman Sergei Gonchar will miss Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings with concussion-like symptoms.

Gonchar was injured in the second period of Saturday’s game against San Jose when he was hit in the jaw by a shot off the stick of Sharks defenseman Justin Braun. Gonchar left the game and did not return. Stars GM Jim Nill said the hope is that Gonchar will be back when the Stars resume play after the NHL’s holiday break. “I’d say five days,” Nill said. “Hopefully, when we come back on the 27th. We’ll see how he is.” With Gonchar out, Maxime Fortunus, signed to a one-year contract by the Stars on Wednesday, will be in the lineup for Monday’s game against the Kings.

Sergei Gonchar
Bernier starts for the Maple Leafs.

Bernier stopped 25 of 26 shots after replacing James Reimer in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Red Wings. He was nearly able to lead the Maple Leafs back for the W after entering with a 3-1 deficit. Bernier enters play tonight with a 3-6-2 record, 2.41 GAA and .932 SV% on the road.

Already this season we’ve seen the hammer brought down by the NHL Department of Player Safety. Notable suspensions and fines include Ryan Reaves of the Toronto Maple Leafs who was given a five-game suspension for an illegal check to the head against the Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot who was dealt a three-game suspension, also for an illegal hit to the head.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. Every season there are several players who have breakout years, establishing themselves as some of the best up-and-coming stars in the league.
