Also, defenseman Mike Sauer (concussion) is not on the ice for today’s practice, the second straight day he has not skated. Yesterday, coach John Tortorella reported “all’s good” with Sauer and said he was doing off-ice work with strength and conditioning coach Reg Grant.
Not being able to train certainly depleted Sauer's strength so his workout regime likely will focus on strength and conditioning. Once he returns, he should get the Rangers blue line back to full strength.
Cooke took Richards down hard in the Rangers’ zone at 8:23 of the period, with Richards also looking like he hit his head on the ice as he fell. Richards came back for the next shift but wound up playing just 2:38 in the third period.
Richards is arguably the team's most important player and his absence from the lineup would be a big blow. Couple that with his past history of concussions and the star center may miss some playing time.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
