Johansen continues to go through growing pains despite improving modestly. So far the rookie has three goals and five points through his first 11 games.

Niittymaki getting back on the ice is a welcome sign. His last NHL appearance came back on April 23rd when he relieved Antti Niemi in the playoffs.

Certainly sounds like Hanzal will draw back in tomorrow. Hanzal has three goals and 10 points through his first 11 tilts this season -- good for third on the team. Both Boyd Gordon and Patrick O'Sullivan have benefited from his absence.

Interesting setup. The Blackhawks may be looking for a way to get Montador going offensively. So far he has two assists -- both at even strength -- through 15 games.

Should Bolland not be healthy enough to play tomorrow, expect Kruger to get a look on the third line. The Swedish import has two goals and three points over 14 games this season.

Almost certain that #CBJ C Jeff Carter will miss Thursday's game vs. #Blackhawks. If so, it'll be his 10th game out with fractured foot.
Tough break for Carter who seemed to suffer a setback during today's practice. He did manage three assists through his first five games but has since missed nine consecutive games.

Steckel moves up to the third line, where he may get a few more offensive opportunities. The top faceoff guy in the League has three goals in 15 games.

Tyler Kennedy taking contact but no date for return from concussion. #Penguins
Definitely a step in the right direction as Kennedy must be cleared for contact. The winger scored a goal and three points through his first six games. As well all know by now, concussions are indefinite.
Ben Lovejoy likely out longer than 6 weeks w/broken wrist.
With Lovejoy out, expect to see a few players tryout for the team. The leading candidates appear to be Robert Bortuzzo and Alexandre Picard but we may see Brian Streit as well.
After hour-plus practice with contact, Sidney Crosby says nothing is new and declines to do interviews.
Perhaps nothing is new but the Pens only currently roster 11 healthy forwards. Stay tuned for a further update on the team's captain.

Look for Pouliot to get a crack at a scoring line. Over the past two years he has potted 30 goals playing mostly in an offensive role. He should improve on his one goal over nine games.

Notable suspensions and fines include Ryan Reaves of the Toronto Maple Leafs who was given a five-game suspension for an illegal check to the head against the Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot who was dealt a three-game suspension, also for an illegal hit to the head.
In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
