“I see nothing wrong with two guys at the same level if they chose to drop the gloves,” Carlyle said. “When there’s a mismatch as far as the level of player…Dubinsky’s a pretty good player, and so is Corey Perry. If it’s a different level of player fighting a more skilled player then I look at it differently.”

Good to see coach Randy Carlyle will let Corey Perry fight at his leisure. Last season, the MVP fought twice according to HockeyFights.com; he might break that marker this season.

The National Hockey League has suspended Minnesota Wild winger Pierre-Marc Bouchard for two games due to a stick infraction during last night's 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Bouchard will miss Monday afternoon's game against the New York Islanders, and Tuesday night's contest in Ottawa.

Bouchard will miss the next two games due to a "bad accident". Last season he fully recovered from concussion-like symptoms, to post 12 goals and 38 points through 59 games. Expect him to improve on those tallies with Guillaume Latendresse on his line all year.

With defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo a game time decision, expect Kent Huskins to make his Blues debut.

Colaiacovo continues to carry the 'injury-prone' label. While productive, the puck-moving defenseman only played 63, 67 and 65 games in each of the past three seasons. Expect him to miss a few games which would put Kent Huskins or a youngster like Ian Cole into regular playing time.

BostonBruins.com — Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk will get to skate against his former team today as the Colorado Avalanche visit the TD Garden.

Boychuk has been paired with Zdeno Chara in the early going, which significantly increases his fantasy hockey value at even strength. Last season he scored only a goal and 16 points over 69 games. He should be able to improve on those totals but likely won't see too much PP time.

I admit...typing Phil Kessel Fatnasy POTN was weird. #NHL #FantasyHockey

A hat trick vs. the Sens puts Kessel tied for the league lead in goals. Temper short-term expectations as the Leafs have a dainty schedule to open the year but Kessel looks on track to have another 30+ goal season.

Notable suspensions and fines include Ryan Reaves of the Toronto Maple Leafs who was given a five-game suspension for an illegal check to the head against the Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot who was dealt a three-game suspension, also for an illegal hit to the head.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL.
