Goalie Start
The veteran understands his brief tenure with the Buffalo Sabres has ended. Morrisonn began bracing for his AHL assignment back in June, when the team acquired two high-profile defensemen, making him a spare part.
Sounds like Morrissonn remains positive while in the AHL with expectations of making it back to the big club. Through his first 62 games as a Sabre he only scored a goal and five points. Expect him to make it back into the NHL by the end of the year.
Injury
Michael Sauer (probably a maintenance day for shoulder) on ice #NYR
With Marc Staal already out, the Rangers will play it safe with Sauer. Last season he scored three goals and 15 points over 76 games with the team. Look for him to be healthy for the team's next game on Saturday, October 15th.
As Rangers begin in Greenburgh, don't see Wojtek Wolski (groin)
Wolski was held out of the team's last game, which indicates this groin issue could be somewhat long term. His bounce back season is somewhat in jeopardy if he cannot stay on the ice.
Staal not on ice with Rangers, not in Hartford either.
Staal continues his slow recovery from concussion-like symptoms. Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the situation.
The Elmira Jackals have signed former Buffalo Sabres captain and longtime NHL defenseman Craig Rivet to a standard player contract, the team announced on Monday. Rivet is expected to be in the Jackals' lineup on Friday night at First Arena when they host the Trenton Titans in the 2011-2012 season opener.
Certainly no fantasy hockey value in the ECHL. Hopefully the former captain works hard and gets back into the NHL.
Julien said Kampfer getting closer. Not sure if he will make the trip.
Kampfer made the team out of camp but got injured shortly after. Last season he scored five goals and 10 points over 38 games for the Bruins. Look for him to fill in for any injured d-men and add depth to the blue line.
Not seeing Stalberg out here today. Guessing we see him in next few days but that's just a guess.
When he returns, he could replace Brandon Saad on one of the top two lines. Last year he scored 12 goals and 24 points while seeing action next to Jonathan Toews. Look for him to improve on those totals in his third full season.

Ben Smith joining the #Blackhawks for practice today.
Smith practicing with the team is certainly an encouraging sign. When he does return, expect him to skate on the fourth line as he needs to earn his playing time.

Mattias Ritola will be in lineup tonight, Pyatt and Jones to sit
Ritola finally broke into the NHL last season following a few shuttle rides between Detroit and the Grand Rapids. With the lightning he managed to score four goals and eight points over 31 games. Expect him to remain on the bottom two lines.

Mattias Ohlund apparently is scheduled to have a procedure on his knee, waiting for Steve Yzerman to offer an update
Ohlund is expected to miss 2-3 months, which should safely eliminate him as a fantasy hockey option. Considering he is still looking for his first goal as a Bolt over two seasons, he likely will be available when healthy. This injury effects the Lightning a bunch more than it will any fake hockey team.
Per team press release: The Lightning signed left wing Ondrej Palat to a three-year, entry-level contract today.
Palat scored 39 goals and 96 points last season for the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL. He figures to add depth to the Lightning's minor league affiliate Norfolk Admirals

Gillies-Johnson-Kassian
Kassian posted 144 PIM over 64 games between the Wild and Houston Aeros. He could be a decent source of PIM should he get into the lineup and play more of a regular shift than Brad Staubitz.

With Bouchard suspended, Powe moves up to the second line. Lines updated.

The Sens don't play today so we are left in the dark with regards to Filatov's actual lines. He registered an assist over his first two games but it sounds like coach McLean wants more from his talented enigma.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
