Meanwhile, fans sit and await word as to when Jarome Iginla will resume to a full practice routine. The Captain is skating again, but hasn’t resumed contact drills which would leave his availabilty for opening night in serious doubt. If he cannot go, that’s two thirds of your top line unaccounted for. Again, not the best case scenario.

The team's brass continues to explain he will be ready for opening night but at this point he has yet to even practice. Last year he scored 43 goals and 86 points which led the team and finished sixth in overall scoring. Look for at least 30 goals and 70 points over a full season.

Sounds like Roman Horak will be on the #Flames to start the season. Sutter says it'd have happened regardless of the Backlund injury.

Horak makes the camp regardless of the injury but may get sent down when the team gets fully healthy. Last season he scored 26 goals and 78 points as a member of the now-defunct Chilliwack Bruins. Look for him to produce a few goals with his veteran linemates but he will likely be available on the waiver wire in your league.

After an impressive start to the preseason on a line with Sven Baertschi and Niklas Hagman, Backlund broke his finger and is now expected to miss up to six weeks. This is not the start he had hoped for. This is not the start the team had hoped for.

Backlund was expected to start the season on the top line but suffered this setback. Last season, he scored 10 goals and 25 points through 73 games for the Flames. Temper your expectations for this coming season as he figures to lose around two months of fantasy hockey value.

Timonen will start the season with Andrej Meszaros, who he worked with in practice again on Tuesday.

Timonen should not be affected from the switch as Meszaros is a steady defender. Last season the Kuopio, Finland native scored six goals and 37 points in 82 games. He should continue manning the point on PP1 so expect around 40 points.

“Hockey is a big part of my life,” he says, almost pleading his case. “Probably more than half. I love it. Nothing has changed. Later in life, you look [at things differently]. I’m almost 40 years old. There’s a lot of ups and downs in your life.

Jagr should perform admirably as the top line RW. A translation of last season's KHL stats would put the superstar in the 70 point range over a full season. At this point that looks like a solid pick in the 11th round.

Seguin was expected to break out during his second NHL season but may experience some more growing pains on the third line. Last season he scored only 11 goals and 22 points through 74 games but broke out during the postseason. Expect a slight improvement on those totals.

The longest suspension served was dealt to former-Detroit Red Wing David Perron at six-games after a cross-checking penalty dealt ironically against his current team in the 2024-25 season, the Ottawa Senators. Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
