Alex Ovechkin will miss at least three days of practice while he attends to his family following the death of his uncle, but is hoping to return from Russia on Friday and play in the Capitals’ regular season opener Saturday night at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ovechkin will not miss a game due to his family tragedy. ast season, the consensus fantasy hockey first overall pick scored 32 and 85 points -- both the lowest totals of his career. Expect him to return to the 50-goal, 100-point range this season.

Most notably, there was Mathieu Perreault centering Alexander Semin and Troy Brouwer on what could be considered the second line.

Perreault made the team mostly because he can rotate between the first and third line when called up, or sit when he is not. Last season he scored seven goals and 14 points over 35 games with the Capitals. Expect around 20 points this season if he continues to shuffle in the lineup sporadically.

As recently as Sunday evening against the Blackhawks, Johansson was replaced on the top line at times by Perreault.“He was creating things, and Marcus hadn't to that point,"

Johansson failed to produce on the top line so coach Bruce Boudreau will attempt to jumpstart his second generation center. Last season he scored 13 goals and 27 points last season, moving between the first and third line pivot. He should at least climb to the 40-point level this season.

That could mean Zenon Konopka takes a seat, although Konopka will probably be in the lineup Saturday against Toronto, in what is expected to be a more physical game.

After playing 82 games with the Islanders last season, Konopka could be on the outside of the lineup, looking in. He led the League in PIM with 307 so keep an eye on his playing time if you want to stream PIM.

Meanwhile, Peter Regin was also back on the ice – wearing a no-contact sweater – for ther first time since hurting his shoulder in an exhibition game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Sounds promising for Regin, who could be healthy for opening night. Last season he only scored three goals and 17 points as he battled through inconsistency and injury. While the Sens have an insurance plan in Mika Zibanejad, they likely hope their Danish playmaker can return to the 15 goal, 30+ point range.

As the Senators practiced Tuesday in advance of a quick pre-season retreat to London, Ont., centre Stephane Da Costa took a regular shift for the first time since suffering a lower body injury last Wednesday.

Last season, Da Costa scored 14 goals and 45 points with Merrimack College last season, earning an entry-level contract. He finished the year playing four games with the Sens, failing to register a point. He will get a long look to make the team.

DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Commodore won't play in the first two games of the season, Friday at home against Ottawa and Saturday in Colorado, due to a sore knee.

Commodore's injury probably doesn't directly affect the Wings as Jakub Kindl slots into the bottom pairing. The rugged blueliner scored two goals and six points in 20 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets last season. He likely holds limited fantasy hockey value despite playing on a powerhouse.
