Schroeder could have made the team but lost out to Cody Hodgson for the second line job. He will need at least another year in the AHL after scoring only 10 goals and 28 points in his rookie year.

The Canucks returned Nicklas Jensen, their first-round pick (29th overall) in June, to his Oshawa junior team on Friday, but the 18-year-old Dane left nothing but good impressions behind.

Jensen was selected this past summer as the 30th overall pick by the Canucks. He scored 29 goals and 58 points in his first season in North America.

Rookie winger Cam Atkinson, who made the club with a tremendous training camp, has also secured a top-6 spot.

Great news for Atkinson, who should have some decent fantasy hockey value. Last season, the 6th round pick dominated Hockey East, scoring 31 goals in 39 games for Boston College. Look for the rookie to pot a few goals with his talented linemates.

With the Blackhawks in town and Chicago media asking about Troy Brouwer, the Caps' coach let it out that he envisions the big right wing playing with Alex Ovechkin in the season opener agains the Hurricanes.

Expect Brouwer to make his way onto the top PP unit as well since his seven PP tied Alex Ovechkin and Mike Knuble for the team lead last season. Look for 20 goals and around 50-55 points over a full season.

Meanwhile, defenseman Erik Johnson crashed into the dasher boards during a drill and left the ice in upper-body pain. He later returned and is fine.

Sounds like Johnson had a scare. Last season he scored eight goals and 29 points through 77 games between the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche. Expect him to produce around 10 goals and 40 points as the number 1 defender in Colorado.

I’m not sure what the club is going to do about defenseman Kyle Cumiskey, who skated by himself today in an orange jersey. He has a groin problem.

Cumiskey may not have a roster spot when he returns. Last season he scored a goal and eight points through 18 games with the Avs. Expect him to catch on with another team if the Avs choose to waive him.

Considering both players are practicing should indicate neither is a long-term injury. The winger scored a goal in six regular season games before becoming a postseason hero for the Blackhawks. When he does return his playing time will directly correlate with his teammate's health.

Considering both players are practicing should indicate neither is a long-term injury. Last season he scored 15 goals and 37 points while centering the second and third line but missed 21 games due to various injuries. If he can't stay in the lineup, the Blackhawks will have a hard time replacing his two-way play.

Additionally, Perron was fined $148,437.48 for his actions.
