We thought he was going to bring some energy, give us some good depth, but with Ryan Johnson and (Cory) Emmerton, (Fabian) Brunnstrom, (Tomas) Tatar, we've got some guys that can continue to push and give us depth.

If Brunnstrom could succeed anywhere in the NHL, it would be with Detroit. The 26-year-old holds 19 goals and 40 points through 99 career NHL games, which would indicate he has potential similar to a Red Wings forward like Jiri Hudler. If he signs, keep the Swedish import in the very back of your mind.

We thought he was going to bring some energy, give us some good depth, but with Ryan Johnson and (Cory) Emmerton, (Fabian) Brunnstrom, (Tomas) Tatar, we've got some guys that can continue to push and give us depth.

Johnson could provide depth as a forward that does not need to play every night. Last season he scored a goal and six points in 34 games on the Blackhawks fourth line. Right now he faces slim odds with higher upside players in that same competition.

Emmerton might have made the team anyway, but Mursak's injury probably assures him of a spot.

In his third full AHL season, Emmerton scored 12 goals and 38 points. The former second round pick should make the team out of camp and provide some energy to a bottom line.

DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland, providing an update today on Jan Mursak, said the speedy, young forward will be out closer to three months after suffering a fractured left ankle in Sunday's preseason game against Chicago.

The native of Yugoslavia was expected to make the team in a checking role or as as spare forward. In 19 games last season, Mursak managed to score on goal for the Red Wings. Don't expect much fantasy value this season.

In an ironic way, they're going to get that opportunity since their most proven goal scorer, 19-year-old Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Tom Kühnhackl, injured a knee over the weekend and is out for a while.

Kühnhackl failed to make the Pens out of camp but could challenge for a spot next season. The 19-year-old scored 29 goals and 68 points in 63 games for the Windsor Spitfires last season. Keep him in mind as a legitimate NHL prospect.

Here are a few notes from Monday's practice in Frisco. The Stars have added Jamie Benn and Adam Burish to the list of players they are being cautious with right now. Those two players have sore groins.

Burish was an incredibly valuable player to the Stars last season despite only eight goals and 14 points. They will continue to take it easy on him when the games don't matter. While he plays a bruising style on the ice, his PIM do not translate to fantasy hockey as he only registered 91 and 107 respectively over the past two seasons.

Here are a few notes from Monday's practice in Frisco. The Stars have added Jamie Benn and Adam Burish to the list of players they are being cautious with right now. Those two players have sore groins.

The Stars will be careful with their prized young forward. Last season, Benn scored 22 goals and 56 points in only his second NHL season. He will be relied on to help anchor the second line this season and should play alongside leading scorer Loui Eriksson.

FRISCO -- Seven Dallas Stars placed on waivers Saturday have all cleared. The seven players are Maxime Fortunus, Eric Godard, Brad Lukowich, Travis Morin, Raymond Sawada, Dan Spang and Francis Wathier.

No immediate fantasy hockey value in the AHL, or in limbo.

What are the latest updates on NHL player suspensions or disciplinary actions?

Notable suspensions and fines include Ryan Reaves of the Toronto Maple Leafs who was given a five-game suspension for an illegal check to the head against the Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot who was dealt a three-game suspension, also for an illegal hit to the head.

In the 2023-24 season, there were a total of 14 suspensions and 17 fines issued throughout the NHL. Additionally, nothing beats a comeback story, and that can be said about surging veterans such as Anze Koipitar of the Los Angeles Kings, and Matt Duchene of the Dallas Stars.
