Good to hear the young Russian is OK following a scary check. The former 6th overall pick is expected to compete for a spot on one of the team's top two lines.

Brodeur is having trouble with left-to-right movements, which kept him out of the power play drills. The Devils will continue to play it safe with their starting goalie in hopes they can keep him on the ice all year.

Fedotenko played with Brad Richards back in the Tampa Bay years and could be a fit on the team's top line. Richards was quoted earlier in the season as saying he works best with a North-South winger who can get the puck out of the corners. Surprisingly, Fedotenko fits that bill better than Wojtek Wolski.

Gilroy scored seven goals over his 127-game NHL career. He could improve under coach Guy Boucher but likely will not become the hyped offensive defenseman that won the Hobey Baker three seasons ago, at the NHL level.

Gomez wants to bounce back from his worst NHL season. The 31-year-old could bounce back to the 40 assist and 60 point range but don't expect much more.

Look for Ryder to start the season on the team's top line. The 31-year-old scored 18 goals last season over 79 games with the Boston Bruins and could score 20 goals for the fourth time in his career.

The Devils could benefit from a good, right-handed shot from the point. Should Larsson work out, his fantasy value should skyrocket as he is listed with an excellent supporting cast.

Probably nothing to worry about yet although Brodeur's body has certainly broke down over recent years. Depending on your format, the future Hall of Famer has gone as high as the second round -- a price too rich for my blood.

Staal's healthy is certainly in question but taking part in practice is a big step in the right direction. Stay tuned for further updates.

Michalek is expected to play on the top line this season. The Czech winger has struggled to stay healthy but looks to turn that around in his third year with the Sens. At 26, Michalek certainly has more left in the tank with the potential to pot 25+ goals.

Smith showed the ability to score when put on a scoring role. Look for the 23-year-old to make the team at some point this season, likely playing a similar role as Bryan Bickell two seasons ago.

Rostering O'Donnell has been a sign of a contending team in recent years, whether it be in Los Angeles, Anaheim, Philadelphia or now Chicago. The 39-year-old won't add too much to the box score but should help the young Nick Leddy continue to adapt to the NHL.

Chara will take a few days to heal from his bruise; a veteran like Big Z certainly doesn't need as much training as some of the younger players.

If he can pot 10 goals and add 150 PIM he would be a fantasy asset in deeper rosters. Tyrvainen would actually need to make the team, however.
