This is the first time that Ovechkin has skated since getting injured. The injury is believed to be minor so his participation in practice this morning is a positive sign that he will be back in tonight. We will get official word when it is made available.

Tanguay has been out since Nov. 2 with knee and hip injuries. He will play on a line with Paul Stastny and Gabe Landeskog, on the right wing. While Tanguay will play against the Panthers, he will get Saturday's game off against Tampa Bay. "We don't want to overdo it right away with Alex," Avs coach Patrick Roy said. "The plan is to have him take (Saturday) off, then come back Tuesday in Dallas. It's good to have him back. We were playing so well when he got hurt. It's nice to have everybody back. This is kind of the lineup we projected, and we have more depth now."

Grabovski played only 6:19 after suffering an apparent leg injury in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Devils. The Capitals are already without Alex Ovechkin, so losing a key pivot like Grabovski would even further their current offensive struggles.

Giguere was originally scheduled to start tonight but will yield the start to Sami Aittokallio because of a stiff back. He is listed as day-to-day.
Steen was injured on Thursday and likely won't play tonight, but is not expected to miss a lengthy period of time. He missed 11 games with a concussion earlier in the month, but didn't appear to miss a beat registering two goals and two assists in his first four games back. Consider Steen day-to-day and monitor his status prior to tonight's game, but it looks as if Derek Roy will be in and Steen will be out.

Methot declared himself ready for Thursday's game but he was held out of the contest. He missed a total of two games, but will play vs. the Hurricanes tomorrow.

Hanzal missed the last two games with a lower-body injury, but his participation in the morning skate suggests he will return tonight vs. the Oilers. Hanzal has 34 points (14G / 20A) in 45 games this season.

It all depends how Stamkos responds to an increased workload. Stamkos is expected to begin 'light' contact on Saturday. So far things are trending in the right direction for Stammer to be ready for Sochi 2014.

Yakupov missed three games with a concussion that he suffered on January 16. He has 17 points (9G / 8A) in 47 games in his sophomore season.

After a four-game absence, Hamilton will return to the Bruins blueline on Saturday. He has 10 points (4G / 6A) in 33 games.

Ovechkin will miss his second straight game tonight. The Capitals are having a hard time scoring goals in 2014 and missing the NHL's leading scorer will certainly hurt their lineup.

Alfredsson missed the last six games with back spasms, but will return tonight. He will skate on the third line with Darren Helm and Daniel Cleary. He has recorded 30 points (11G / 19A) in 38 games.
Steen went down in the corner and was slow to stand up. He appeared to jam his right foot into the crease of the boards, and getting up slowly, he rested on the bench briefly. Steen attempted to skate it off, putting limited pressure on his right leg. He stayed in the game briefly, but with 2:57 left in the second period, he headed for the locker room and didn’t return. “He’s day-to-day” Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. “We’ll see where he is in a day or so. He’ll be back.” Monitor Steen's status during Saturday's morning skate.

Franzen is encouraged but he still doesn’t know when he’ll return. “Need to talk to the medical staff and see what they think,” Franzen said. “I’m just happy to not feel like I’m in the fog anymore.”

Alfredsson had his third good skating session in a row today with no setbacks. “I’m going to talk with the coaches and medical staff after practice (Friday) and go from there,” Alfredsson said. “A little more intense these last two days, but I feel good and I don’t expect anything will change until tomorrow.” Alfredsson has missed six games with lower back inflammation. Coach Mike Babcock said a decision on Alfredsson’s status will be made after the morning skate.
Barkov’s absence means more ice time for Nick Bjugstad, center Drew Shore and Jesse Winchester. Barkov, who is the Panthers leading scorer with 24, was injured on Tuesday, but is not expected to miss an extended period of time. If he can't go tonight, look for him to return on Sunday against Detroit.

Keith has three goals and 43 assists in 52 games this season and is on pace to be a Norris Trophy finalist. Consider Keith day-to-day.

This was pretty obvious on Wednesday, but he is confirmation that Henrik will miss his second straight game. Monitor his status leading up to Sunday's game vs. the Coyotes.

Ebbett who has been practising since Tuesday is ready to return from an ankle injury that has kept him out since December 5. He will likely head to the AHL for conditioning, but even if he works his way back into the Penguins lineup, he is unlikely going to have any fantasy impact.

While the minimum amount of time spent on the injured reserve list is seven calendar days, there is no maximum amount of time that a player can be placed on the injured reserve list. If a player is set to be sidelined for longer than 24 calendar days or 10 NHL games, then a club may opt to place them on the long-term injured reserve instead. This allows franchises with the ability to exceed the salary cap while a player is placed on this reserve list.
No injury recovery timeline is the same as another as there are several factors that go into the rehab process for a player being affected by injury. Factors include but are not limited to, injury severity, player injury/medical history, age, as well as the location of the injury. Some injuries are able to clear up in a matter of days, while others may take an athlete out of action for the entirety of a season.
