Harding has been excellent in the first (almost) half of the season. He has started the season 18-5-3 with a 1.51 GAA and .939 SV%. There is no word if he will jump right back into the net tonight vs. Winnipeg or if Niklas Backstrom will make one more start.
Melchiori has five assists in 18 games with St. John's, he has not played in an NHL game yet.

Russell has a second degree MCL sprain and won't return until late January or early February. This is a terrible break for the Flames as Russell has been one of their better defenseman this season. He has totalled four goals and 12 assists (16 points) in 36 games. Christopher Breen is expected to play full-time for the first time in his NHL career while Russell is out.

Ericsson is severe blow to the already decimated Wings' lineup. If you were relying on him for fantasy purposes, consider that Jakub Kindl will received increased playing time, but you can probably find better options on your waiver wire.

This will be Parise's second game missed this season, the last with a foot injury that hasn't healed yet. I don't know if this is related. We'll have more from coach Mike Yeo after the game hopefully. Parise has one assist and is minus-7 on the 1-6-1 road slide. Justin Fontaine will draw into the lineup.

Gudbranson has struggled to two goals and five assists with a minus-7 rating in 37 games. The Panthers have recalled Alex Petrovic from San Antonio.

Gonchar was injured in the second period of Saturday’s game against San Jose when he was hit in the jaw by a shot off the stick of Sharks defenseman Justin Braun. Gonchar left the game and did not return. Stars GM Jim Nill said the hope is that Gonchar will be back when the Stars resume play after the NHL’s holiday break. “I’d say five days,” Nill said. “Hopefully, when we come back on the 27th. We’ll see how he is.” With Gonchar out, Maxime Fortunus, signed to a one-year contract by the Stars on Wednesday, will be in the lineup for Monday’s game against the Kings.

Garbutt missed Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury but will return to the lineup tonight with Alex Chiasson dealing with the flu. Garbutt has four goals and five assists in 28 games.

With Chiasson out, Ryan Garbutt (undisclosed) will return to the lineup. Chiasson has just two assists in his last eight games and eight goals, 11 assists and a minus-10 rating in 35 games. Consider him day-to-day.

Orr has missed the last 10 games and is expected to be activated from IR and reclaim his spot on the fourth line. He is an enforcer and nothing more, Orr has no points in 26 games. A useful player for the Leafs, but definitely not fantasy relevant.

Stoner will be replaced by Nate Prosser, who has not played in the last 14 games. Stoner was injured in last night's game vs. the Rangers. With the Christmas break on the horizon the Wild will let the banged up Stoner rest.

McQuaid has missed the last nine games with a lower-body injury that he suffered on November 30. He will likely suit up on the third pair. McQuaid has on goal, two assists and a plus-7 rating in 18 games.

Steen was injured on Saturday and did not return to the game. He was not on the ice for the Blues morning skate and Jaden Schwartz was skating in his spot on the top-line. Dmitrij Jaskin has been recalled and is expected to see top-6 minutes with Steen out.

Harrison left Saturday's game after playing only 4:23 and did not return. His injury is not believed to be serious and he is listed as day-to-day. With Harrison taking a seat, Ryan Murphy will re-enter the lineup after serving as a healthy scratch for the last two games.

Luongo left the ice with 3:30 remaining in the first period of the Canucks' 2-1 win and headed toward the Vancouver dressing room. Earlier in the period he was knocked to the ice in a goal-mouth collision with Winnipeg's Blake Wheeler. Luongo, who had made six saves, was replaced by Eddie Lack. Luongo did not return for the start of the second period and wasn't on the Canucks bench.

Malkin will miss his fifth straight game with a leg injury that he suffered on December 14 in Detroit. With the three-day Christmas break on the horizon it is not a surprise to see Malkin sitting out tonight. Consider him day-to-day.

While the minimum amount of time spent on the injured reserve list is seven calendar days, there is no maximum amount of time that a player can be placed on the injured reserve list. If a player is set to be sidelined for longer than 24 calendar days or 10 NHL games, then a club may opt to place them on the long-term injured reserve instead. This allows franchises with the ability to exceed the salary cap while a player is placed on this reserve list.
No injury recovery timeline is the same as another as there are several factors that go into the rehab process for a player being affected by injury. Factors include but are not limited to, injury severity, player injury/medical history, age, as well as the location of the injury. Some injuries are able to clear up in a matter of days, while others may take an athlete out of action for the entirety of a season.
