61 NHL players placed on waivers for Sept. 25
A massive list of names has hit the wire prior to the weekend.
On Friday, 61 players across the NHL were put on waivers, making them available to the other 31 teams in the league.
If they were to clear waivers on Thursday, they would be eligible to be assigned to their respective American Hockey League affiliates.
The biggest name, unquestionably, is Brandon Tanev. The 34-year-old is coming off a rough season with the Utah Mammoth, as he posted just three assists in 56 games. Tanev’s production hasn’t been the same since his career-best 2022-23 season with the Seattle Kraken, when he scored 35 points and helped the team reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time.
In 608 regular-season games, Tanev has scored 84 goals and 99 assists for 183 points, with another 14 points in 65 postseason contests. Tanev is heading into his second season of his three-year contract, which carries an AAV of $2.5 million.
There are other players with notable NHL experience on the wire, including San Jose Sharks goaltender Eric Comrie, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph and St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist.

Of the 30 players placed on waivers on Thursday, only goaltender Leevi Merilainen was claimed. The former Ottawa Senators goaltender is a new member of the Vancouver Canucks organization. The rest of the players cleared and can be assigned to the AHL.
