The Anaheim Ducks are bringing is some fourth-line grit from their cross-town rival.

Per Elliotte Friedman, the Ducks signed winger Jeff Malott on a Wednesday to a three-year contract.

The deal will carry an average annual value (AAV) of $1.85 million.

Malott, 29, had three goals and six assists for nine points in 58 games for the Los Angeles Kings last season. Perhaps more notably, given his role, he also finished fourth on the team with 55 penalty minutes.

The Burlington, Ontario native began his professional career when he signed with the Winnipeg Jets as an undrafted free agent in April of 2020 following his four-year collegiate career with Cornell University. Malott spent four years in the Jets’ organization, playing almost exclusively for Winnipeg’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Manitoba Moose.

At the AHL level, Malott proved to be a strong offensive contributor. His best season with Manitoba came in 2023-24, when he notched 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points in 70 games. Outside of a one-game appearance in the 2021-22 season, however, he never got his chance up with the Jets.

Ahead of the 2024-25 season, Malott signed a two-year, $1.55 million deal with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent. That year, he got his first extended look at the NHL level, putting up an assist in 12 games with Los Angeles. He still spent most of that season in the AHL, registering 23 goals and 28 assists for 51 points in 61 games. It wasn’t until last season that he became a full-time NHLer.

At 6’5″ and 215 pounds, Malott is a big-bodied forward that can add forecheck and toughness to a team’s bottom-six.

Malott’s brother, Mike, is a professional mixed martial arts fighter that competes in the UFC.
