Bruins activate Casey Mittelstadt from IR, place Matej Blumel on LTIR

A couple of roster moves for an Original Six ahead of some Black Friday action.
The Boston Bruins activated forward Casey Mittelstadt from injured reserve, while placing winger Matej Blumel on long-term injured reserve.
Bruins announce the following roster transactions:
Added Casey Mittelstadt to the active roster.
Georgii Merkulov recalled from Providence.
Matej Blumel placed (Date of Injury: Nov. 26) on long-term injured reserve.
Michael Callahan assigned to Providence.
In response, the Bruins have called up forward Georgii Merkulov from the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins, assigning defenseman Michael Callahan to the AHL.
Mittelstadt has been out of action since suffering an upper-body injury earlier this month. His last appearance was on Nov. 6 against the Ottawa Senators. He was placed on injured reserve last week to free up some roster space. He’s missed Boston’s last nine games, in which the Bruins went 5-4-0, beating the New York Islanders this past Wednesday.
The 27-year-old played in 15 of the Bruins’ first 16 games thus far, scoring four goals and five assists for nine points.
Blumel was called up in Mittelstadt’s absence, having played in four of the team’s past five games, but didn’t register a point. It was reported on Thursday that the 25-year-old was going to miss some time due to a lower-body injury. With the placement on LTIR being retroactive to Nov. 26, Blumel won’t be eligible to return to the lineup until Dec. 21, when the Bruins host the Senators.
Merkulov has solely been in the AHL so far this season, scoring six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 17 games. He appeared in six games with the Bruins last year, posting an assist.
Callahan played in three games with the Bruins this year, but hasn’t seen any action since Oct. 27.
The Bruins (14-11-0) face off with the New York Rangers on Friday afternoon.
