Avalanche injury news: Scott Wedgewood to return against Predators

A netminder who has been having a great season is set to return to play.
When speaking to the media, Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar revealed that goaltender Scott Wedgewood will start against the Nashville Predators.
🥅: Scott Wedgewood (COL) ✅ will return and start in NSH on Tuesday. *It was originally reported that Blackwood was in the starter's crease at morning skate. ⚠️Martin Necas (illness) is a game-time decision but should play. ⚠️Gavin Brindley (lower-body) will be a game-time
Wedgewood starts. Necas ill but should play. Brindley a possibility vs Nashville. @kylekeefetv microphone etiquette is flawless. #GoAvsGo
Wedgewood hasn’t played since suffering an upper-body injury last Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks. The veteran exited the game during a TV timeout in the second period. Mackenzie Blackwood entered the game in relief, with the Avalanche snagging a 3-1 win.
Colorado has continued to pace itself in Wedgewood’s brief absence, going 2-1-0 over the past week, including a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers this past Sunday.
The 33-year-old has been a critical part of the Avalanche’s dominance in the first part of the season. With Blackwood missing the first month of the season due to injury, Wedgewood took the starting reins and has been outstanding. In 19 games, he has a record of 13-1-3 with a 2.07 goals-against average and a .920 SV%. He posted a 22-save shutout against the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 23, as well.
Among goaltenders who played in at least 10 games so far, Wedgewood is third in GAA and fifth in SV%. He and Washington Capitals backstop Logan Thompson are tied for second in the NHL in wins, both one behind Dallas Stars netminder Jake Oettinger.
Wedgewood’s play has reportedly led to him being added to Canada’s list of potential players for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The Avalanche (21-2-6) holds the best record in the NHL, sitting three points ahead of the Stars for first in the league standings.
