Predators, Capitals claim players on NHL waivers on Oct. 24

The Nashville Predators and Washington Capitals both claimed players off the NHL’s waiver wire on Saturday.
According to The Athletic‘s Michael Russo, the Predators claimed defenseman Daemon Hunt from the Minnesota Wild. Additionally, Winnipeg Free Press writer Ken Wiebe reported that the Capitals claimed defenseman Jack St. Ivany from the Winnipeg Jets.
Hunt and St. Ivany were the only two players to hit the waiver wire on Friday, and both were claimed, meaning they’ll remain on NHL rosters, just in new locations; subsequently, Brennan Klak reported that three more players were waived on Saturday.
Hunt, 24, appeared in 11 games with the Wild to begin the 2026-27 regular season before being waived. The 6’1″ left-shot defender did not record a point and averaged 14:08 of ice time with the Wild; now, he’ll join a Predators team dealing with an injury to defenseman William Trudeau.
A third-round pick (No. 65 overall) of the Wild in the 2020 NHL Draft, Hunt excelled with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors before turning pro in 2022. The Brandon, Man. product was briefly a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets organization during the 2024-25 season after being included in the David Jiricek trade, but he returned to the Wild early in 2025-26; in 61 career NHL games across the regular season and playoffs, Hunt has recorded eight points (all assists).
St. Ivany, 27, went scoreless in four games with the Jets to start the new season before being waived and claimed by Washington, which is currently without Rasmus Sandin and Vincent Desharnais.
A 6’4″ right-shot defender originally a 2018 fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers, St. Ivany began his professional career in 2022 when he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins after a four-year NCAA career at Yale and Boston College. This past June, the Penguins traded St. Ivany to the Jets in exchange for forward David Gustafsson. In 57 career NHL games, St. Ivany has recorded nine assists.
