Stars can’t afford to lose to Avalanche in Game 2

One of the more intriguing games on the Stanley Cup Playoffs docket on Monday night sees a Dallas Stars team desperate to grab a split on home ice against the Colorado Avalanche.
In the first game of the series in Dallas on Saturday night, the Avalanche were able to get on the Stars early, with goals from Artturi Lehkonen and Nathan MacKinnon putting the home side behind the 8-ball. It seemed as if the Stars were rattled by the more confident and certainly healthier Avalanche team. Although some of the metrics were similar, there wasn’t a feeling that the Stars were the better team.
If they want to have a chance to win this series, and allow big names like Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson to return to the lineup, Dallas must be better on Monday night.
On Monday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk explain why the Stars have a lot on the line in Game 2 against the Avs.
Tyler Yaremchuk: This isn’t some big hyperbole, but like, [it] feels like Dallas’s season is on the line tonight.
Frank Seravalli: I think that’s not hyperbole. I think if they go down 2-0 to the Colorado Avalanche, going back to Denver for game three…good night. They have a chance to make this a short series. … Look, the Stars are the inverse of what the [Toronto Maple Leafs] were in game one. This Stars team needs to find some good feelings. They were lacking confidence. They had opportunities. Didn’t put them away. Mackenzie Blackwood deserves full marks for the performance that he turned in, but Dallas has now lost eight games in a row going back to the regular season. They don’t have a ton to lean on at this exact moment in time when their roster is thin, so they’ve got to find confidence and they’ve got to find it in a hurry.
