Stars’ Colin Blackwell day-to-day with lower-body injury
The Dallas Stars will be without one of their veterans for at least the next little while.
On Monday, Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan revealed that forward Colin Blackwell has a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day.
Gulutzan suggested the injury will keep Blackwell out for a few days, which could force him to miss Dallas’ next couple of preseason games, but should make him available for the start of the regular season.
Blackwell, 33, had four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 70 games for the Stars last season. He then went pointless in Dallas’ first-round playoff loss to the Minnesota Wild in six games.
The North Andover, Maryland native was initially selected by the San Jose Sharks in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He then had a four-year collegiate career for Harvard University, in which he compiled 19 goals and 39 assists for 58 points over 94 games.
Blackwell became a full-time professional in the 2016-17 season, putting up four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 57 games for the Sharks’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate San Jose Barracuda. As a free agent ahead of the 2017-18 season, he participated in the Buffalo Sabres‘ rookie camp, and eventually signed Buffalo’s AHL affiliate Rochester Americans. He went on to a break out year of sorts with Rochester, notching 17 goals and 28 assists for 45 points in 61 games.
In July of 2018, Blackwell signed a two-year, entry-level deal with the Nashville Predators. He saw his first NHL action with the Predators over the next two seasons, registering three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 33 total games.
Blackwell signed with the New York Rangers ahead of the 2020-21 season, where he would become a full-time NHLer. He has since played for the Seattle Kraken, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Chicago Blackhawks before signing with Dallas in July of 2024.
