The Dallas Stars will be without one of their top defensemen for the time being, as the team announced on social media on Saturday night that Thomas Harley will be out on a week-to-week basis with a lower-body injury.

Entering Saturday night’s game, Harley was a game-time decision to take the ice. He held a similar designation before Friday night’s game against Montreal, a 7-0 win in which he recorded an assist.

Harley signed a long-term contract extension in the early days of this season to keep him in Texas for the long haul. The team’s first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft has been in a bit of a run in terms of his performance as of late, as he has 10 points in 19 games while skating to a minus-7 rating so far.

That rate of point production is a big dip from his output last season, when he had 50 points in 78 games in a banner season in which he established himself as a young star at his position while getting a chance with Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off as an injury replacement.

Harley has been widely projected to make Canada’s roster for the Winter Olympics in February.

In Harley’s absence, the Stars’ top four will consist of their top pairing of Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell, while Lian Bichsel will get an opportunity to jump into a top four role.

After a slow start to the season, Dallas has gotten scorching hot as of late. They entered Saturday night’s game riding a four-game winning streak while owning a record of 11-4-3 with a 7-1-2 mark in their past 10.

Their 25 points are good enough for a four-point cushion over Utah for second place in the Central Division, though they trail Colorado for the top spot by four points.
