Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin out day-to-day with lower-body injury

A sigh of relief for a team in the midst of a playoff battle.
When speaking to the media on Saturday, Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan stated that captain Dylan Larkin won’t be in the lineup when the team takes on the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night. However, the center will travel with the Wings as they embark on a four-game road trip this week.
Coach McLellan says Dylan Larkin will not play tomorrow, will be on the trip and take it day-by-day.
Larkin was hurt during the Wings’ matchup with the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Friday night. Near the halfway mark of the third period, the Washington, Mich. native went to take a shot and took an awkward spill, leading to his left knee being twisted up.
Larkin gingerly skated off the ice, but didn’t return to the game.

The Red Wings ended up losing 3-1, dropping both home games this week. The team also lost to the Vegas Golden Knights in overtime on Wednesday.
The injury is promising news, especially since many fans in Hockeytown feared the worst, especially given the fact that Detroit solidified itself as a buyer at the trade deadline. General manager Steve Yzerman went out and acquired defenseman Justin Faulk from the St. Louis Blues. It showed that Yzerman is confident in his group to make a true push for the postseason, 11 months after Larkin criticized the front office for not helping the team out last year.
In 63 games, Larkin has scored 28 goals and 55 points, sitting second on the team in goals and third in overall scoring.
After visiting the Devils on Sunday, the Red Wings travel to Sunrise for a matchup with the Panthers on Tuesday. Detroit (35-21-7) is third in the Atlantic Division, three points back of first place.
