Devon Levi has shown early stability in the Oilers’ crease

The Edmonton Oilers are off to a hot start in 2026-27. They’re 5-0-1, capped off with a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday night, with Connor McDavid recording a goal and three assists while Vasily Podkolzin popped two goals of his own.
Not to be overlooked was the performance of Devon Levi, who stopped 39 shots on a night the Oilers were outshot 40-17. While McDavid and co. stole the spotlight with their production, it was Levi — now 4-0-0 with a .903 save percentage (SV%) and 2.76 goals against average (GAA) — who sealed the victory.
On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss Levi’s early-season success and what he brings to an Edmonton group searching for glory.
Tyler Yaremchuk: I wanted to get your thoughts on Levi. Remember: he gave up seven in his first start of the season, and was -4.1 goals saved above expected on MoneyPuck in that first game, but since then, he’s been 3.86. Take that first game out of it, he’s got a .956 SV% in his last three games.
A young goalie who seems to be figuring it out pretty quickly here.
Carter Hutton: I think as a goalie, and on the outside looking in on the media side, we want to be so quick to define what this season was for him. He had that season opener and we said Levi wasn’t ready for this, but good for him: h’s a pro now. He’s taken a bunch of bumps and bruises with the Buffalo Sabres and the AHL’s Rochester Americans, and right now, watching him play, his movement and recovery is just so in control. He’s fighting through screens and never really chasing the game.
And he’s always had that mental capacity on the other side of the game. If you look back to his World Junior performance, he was very mature in how he approached the game from a mental stand point.
