Panthers’ Marchand out through October, Gadjovich out indefinitely
Some unwelcome news for the Florida Panthers as training camp gets underway.
When speaking to the media on Thursday, head coach Paul Maurice revealed that forward Brad Marchand is going to be out for the entire month of October due to rehab, while forward Jonah Gadjovich is also out indefinitely.
It was well known that Marchand wasn’t going to be in the lineup at the start of the 2026-27 season. The veteran winger underwent surgery for an unspecified injury in August, with general manager Bill Zito stating that the Panthers are hopeful Marchand will return “early in the season.”
The 38-year-old had missed the final 19 games of the previous season due to an undisclosed injury, though it hasn’t been revealed if the two ailments are linked. Despite the injury, Marchand was one of the Panthers’ most productive players, scoring 27 goals and 54 points in 52 games. He was the only skater to appear in at least half the team’s games and average a point per game.
Marchand will be entering the second season of his six-year contract that he signed with Florida after helping the team capture the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row. The deal carries an AAV of $5.25 million through the 2030-31 season.
In 1,152 career regular-season games in the NHL, Marchand has posted 451 goals and 583 assists for 1,034 points. He also has 158 points in 180 playoff contests, winning Stanley Cups with the Panthers in 2025 and the Boston Bruins 14 years earlier.
For Gadjovich, injury news before the season starts isn’t what he probably wanted. The Whitby, Ont. native suffered an upper-body injury last October, which ended his season after just 10 games. Gadjovich posted just three assists before being shut down for the year.
The 27-year-old is entering the first season of the two-year contract extension he signed right before he was injured. The deal carries a cap hit of $905,000.
In 170 regular-season games, Gadjovich has scored 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points, notching three points in 16 games during the Cats’ run to the Cup two seasons ago.
