Former NHLers James Reimer, Calen Addison highlight Canada’s 2025 Spengler Cup roster

Hockey’s most prominent nation has unveiled the troops that will represent the country in the longest-running international hockey tournament.
On Friday, Hockey Canada released its 25-man roster for the 2025 Spengler Cup. Among the notable names, former NHLers James Reimer, current Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nolan Allan, and veteran players Calen Addison, and Joe Hicketts are set to don the Maple Leaf in Davos, Switzerland, this coming week.
Here is Canada's roster for the 2025 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland:
Reimer had a long and winding career in the NHL. Beginning in December 2010 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Manitoba native became a fan favorite with the team, dragging the team to the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs (we don’t need to go any further about what happened after that). With the arrival of Jonathan Bernier, Reimer fell out of favor with the Leafs, eventually being traded to the San Jose Sharks prior to the 2015-16 trade deadline.
Reimer bounced around from there, making stops with the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks before finishing the 2024-25 season with the Buffalo Sabres. He signed a PTO with the Leafs this past fall, but didn’t make the roster.
Reimer has represented his country twice, backstopping Canada at both the 2011 and 2014 IIHF Men’s World Championships.
Along with former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Hicketts, Addison brings a significant amount of high-end experience to the roster. The former Minnesota Wild rearguard spent parts of four seasons in the NHL, before spending the entirety of the past couple of years in the American Hockey League with the Henderson Silver Knights, Springfield Thunderbirds and, most recently, the Utica Comets. This is the first time Addison will be representing his country since winning gold with Team Canada at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Although the tournament has been held since 1923, Canada has consistently been among the top teams over the past few decades. Entering the tournament for the first time in 1984, the nation has consistently sent top-tier talent to the event, with the Canadians giving some of the best European club teams a run for their money each year. Team Canada is tied with the host HC Davos for the most Spengler Cups (16), having reached the championship game 26 times, most recently winning it all in 2019.
Team Canada will play the U.S. Collegiate Selects to open the tournament on Dec. 26. The loser will play Davos on Dec. 27, while the winner will challenge the hosts on Dec. 28. The championship game is scheduled for New Year’s Eve.
