Two players claimed off NHL waivers on Sept. 27

Two players were claimed off waivers by NHL teams on Sunday.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the New Jersey Devils claimed goaltender Remi Poirier from the Dallas Stars.

Meanwhile, Friedman also reported the St. Louis Blues claimed defenseman Justin Barron from the Nashville Predators.

The other 16 players that were placed on waivers Saturday cleared.

Poirier, a native of Farnham, Que., went 27-19-6 with a .912 save percentage (SV%) and 2.61 goals against average (GAA) in 52 appearances last season. The 24-year-old has spent the last four seasons in the AHL, and in 137 regular-season games, he’s posted a 70-51-16 record with an .908 SV% and 2.76 GAA.

A sixth-round pick for the Stars in 2020, Poirier played four seasons of junior hockey in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Gatineau Olympiques. He went 62-46-13 with a .902 SV% and 3.06 GAA.

As for Barron, he recorded nine assists in 52 NHL games, averaging 14:15 of ice time. In parts of five NHL seasons, Barron has 18 goals and 34 assists for 52 points, averaging 16:42 of ice time in 208 career games with the Predators, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche.

Barron also has 15 goals and 36 assists for 51 points in 107 career AHL games. In four QMJHL seasons, Barron finished with 23 goals and 89 assists for 112 points in 186 regular-season games.

On Saturday, the Predators have claimed defenseman William Trudeau off waivers from the New York Rangers. The Detroit Red Wings also made a claim, grabbing defenseman Andreas Englund off waivers from the Calgary Flames.
